Oh My God! He's gay? No way!

David Hyde Pierce-- you know him as Niles from Frasier-- is as gay as Doogie Howser and Dr. George O'Malley combined. And now, the week in which we mourn Charles Nelson Reilly, whose pioneering gay bravery puts all the closeted TV sissies to shame, we can finally say it, because today an Associated Press story and not a tabloid made reference to Hyde Pierce's "partner" and someone went and got his people to confirm that yes, one of the gayest acting actors in show business, star of one of the gayest sitcoms in TV history, is gay. Gay. Gay. Gay.

But he's NOT the gayest man in television.

He is:

Rene Fris has been the runaway star-- in fact, the true breakout superstar-- of Shear Genius, Bravo's Runway-Top Chef rip-off-companion that shuffles to its anti-climactic season finale tonight at 10 (anti-climactic because the competition's two best hairstylists stupidly cancelled each other out a couple of episodes ago).

Rene, the show's salon manager, with his ultra-handsome looks, strange Schwarzen-eggerian vibe and butt-hugging outfits (played up by a director who shoots him from behind-- watch tonight and see) has been the object of lust from men and women alike on the show-- even avowed heterosexuals like the suspect "Dr. Boogie." A happy stereotype out of a Christopher Guest-- or Mel Brooks-- movie, he's a native of Denmark and was one of the "Fab Five" in Fantastiske 5-- I den gode smags tjeneste, De, Denmark's version of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

Along with with host Jaclyn Smith, who's been surprisingly real and reinvented as an older, Texas version of Padma Lakshmi, Mr. Fris is bound to be big. (And we don't mean in that way.)

Europe = a continent, not a country. They speak about 27 different languages in Europe, the continent, so there are no "European" versions of any shows. There are Danish versions of shows in DENMARK, where Rene Fris is from.
