The California Air Resources Board officials say their inspectors found that fifty of the monster bikes sold by his West Coast Choppers between 1998 and 2005 didn't have the right emission controls and broke anti-smog laws. They fined him $271,250.
"Sandy?! Babe? Got your checkbook??!!"
Al Gore would love to know that Jesse's bikes allegedly spewed hydrocarbons at up to 10 times the state limits.
The regulators also insist that his celebrity status had nothing to do with Jesse and his shop being targeted.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has also gotten out the ticket books against car customizers. They fined West Coast Customs (not affiliated with West Coast Chopper), for allegedly replacing steering wheel air bags with TV monitors-- but that was when the company was working with MTV's Pimp My Ride.
