AFI names its latest 100 Greatest Movies

bellboy.jpgbluecrush.jpgcocktail.jpgbig_fat_liar.jpg

Hey, we almost forgot to mention that CBS gave three hours of airtime to the American Film Institute to count down its latest list of the 100 Greatest 100 Movies of all time. A pretty risky proposition, considering how On The Lot is tanking over at Fox-- and guess what? Only one movie from Tabloid Baby's List of the Top 50 Movies of All Time made the AFI list.

Now what does that tell you?

But before you make a quick, snappy judgment, consider this:

Do The Right Thing but not Blue Crush?

Forrest Gump but not The Bellboy?

The Sixth Sense but not Big Fat Liar?

The Deer Hunter but not Cocktail?

What do you think, Sutter? Everyone else: Check out the list... then discuss... after the jump...

These lists are getting so old. I mean, you always know the #1 movie will always be Casablanca or Citizen Kane. It's soooo tired. Also, they're pretty much saying that the last "greatest" movie was made 6 years ago (Lord of the Rings). I mean come on, I've never even heard of The Best Years of Our Lives (#37). Who has actually seen it?

I think it's pointless to compose lists rating movies on totally subjective criteria just to draw attention to whatever media outlet you work for.

But, you know, don't forget to check Volumes 1 and 2 of my Top Ten favorite movies, available now on moviegasm.com! (Of which only four appear on AFI's list...)
