Stiller & Cruise team for 'The Hardy Men'

stillercruise.jpg

It's official. Tom Cruise will try to rehabilitate his image by joining up with Hollywood's comedy Brat Pack. No, he's not starring in a sequel to The 40 Year-Old Virgin. As rumoured for weeks, he'll take the Owen Wilson role and team with with Ben Stiller in The Hardy Men, a very gay-sounding movie that's actually an update of The Hardy Boys book and TV series. They'll play the boy detectives as adults, long estranged, who team up to solve one more case.

High-paid hack Shawn Levy, who worked with Stiller in Night At The Museum and whose comic chops make Chris Columbus look like Jacques Tati, will direct. Expect cameos from Wilson and Will Ferrell. And probably Vince Vaughn. Of course, there's that pesky issue called a "script." They're looking for a writer. Twentieth Century Fox hopes to get cameras rolling by 2008.

They say they want the movie to be in the spirit of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Hey, that's supposed to solve Cruise's "gay" problem? Not likely. And get this: Cruise and Stiller have been pals for years, ever since Stiller "did him."

ben.jpgtom.jpgNot like that! Tom's not gay! We mean "did him," as in his Tom Cruise impression. (Stiller played Cruise's stuntman--and Cruise played himself-- in 2000's Mission: Improbable).

It's a good move for Tom. Plus he gets the added bonus of a male co-star who's shorter than he is!
