MTV & Arnold pimp your Earth Day

earth.jpgpimpmyride.jpg

Discovery may be marking Earth Day with a Planet Earth marathon, but MTV is really doing it up and changing the course of the environment tomorrow afternoon with a very special "Green" episode of Pimp My Ride.

Gangsta rapper host Xzibit will team with California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to "pimp" a 1965 Chevy Impala by swapping out its engine for an 800 horsepower Duramax that runs on renewable biodeisel fuel.

According to Arnold, the converted Chevy can hit zero to sixty in three seconds, with greenhouse gas emissions 50 percent lower than a comparable gas-powered car. Biodiesel fuel can be made from recycled products such as vegetable oil.

arnold%26hummer.jpgArnold helped popularize the gas-guzzling, polluting Humvee in his Terminator days, but his people say he's done some penance for the crime against nature by signing a global warming bill and cutting his Hummer fleet to four.

Wait a minute! The guy gets chauffered around in limousines and bullet-proof SUVs... and he still has four Hummers!

Anyway, the LA Times has a good line in tomorrow morning's Fast Tracks column:

"It's downright bizarre to see a guy so closely identified with SUVs give an eco-retrofit to a vehicle so closely identified with drive-by shootings."

Tabloid baby,
please do your research, your posts are getting painful:
All of Arnold's hummers run on biodiesel

Tabloid Baby,

I don't really understand what the problem is. I made you aware of a fact that I perceived to be quite fundamental in order to understand Arnold's position.

I personally don't drive a gas guzzler but an electric motor scooter and I don't like svus or hummers or the like; however, I am constantly surprised by people who take the pretentious liberty to look down on people who drive gas guzzlers. To me, that behavior is ridiculous - I mean, are you a better person because your car gets 20 mpg? No, not really, you're a snob.

Get an energy efficient lightbulb. If everybody in the US did that, it would be of equivalent environmental impact than taking 1 million cars of the road. That's more important than whether somebody has 4 cars that he can't drive simultaneously anyways. And Maria has a different car.

I just thought that your comment had the quality of people who criticize Al Gore for having a lot of kwh per year instead of focusing on his implementation of energy efficient systems. I just think that we are sometimes too quick to judge and see the negative.

I am sorry that I got so worked up over this and I definitely overreacted in my first post. I would just like to say that he really does a lot for California and for the environment. What about the new bullet train we are getting?
