TRL in for a new name-- and new lease on life?

MTV isn't about to throw in the towel on the show that was once a youth magnet, tastemaker, trendsetter, starmaker and its most popular hour of the day. In hopes of returning to its former glory, TRL, teetering on the brink of cancellation despite all the cuties who've been slid in to replace old Carson Daly, is getting a 21st century revamp-- and a name change:

YouRL.

Like url. Only with "You" instead of "u." Or "Your" instead of the "ur"...

Anyway... another Schmendrick is bound to be rewarded with a corner office and key to the executive washroom for coming up with that one: the play on the technical term for a web address invokes the Web, the trend in digital personalization (MySpace, YouTube, TabloidBaby, My TV)-- and even trumps MTV's Hispanic-targeted digital-cable MTV Tr3-- and its Mi TRL-- all in one stroke.

MTV has been feeling the pinch now that kids look online for music videos and downloads. TRL is drawing fewer than half the audience it pulled at its peak in 1999. The revamped version is set to be unveiled this summer,

(Fun fact: "URL" stands for "uniform resource locator." We never knew that... though we'd guess that "YouRL" stands for "Your Requests Live.")
