Will MTV's new star have to shave her head?

MTV wants a hit! And reality ain't cutting it! Bam's Unholy Union and Maui Fever have not turned into the next generation of Real World or The Osbournes, so now the network is hoping an old-fashioned officially-scripted series will save the day.

Kaya will be MTV's first scripted series in five years. The half-hour drama will follow "the tribulations faced by a teenage girl when she and her band become rock stars"-- while exposing a "rock star on the brink of destruction and the underbelly of the music industry." (Didn't someobody do that already, with Being Bobby Brown? Or Britney & Kevin: Chaotic? Oh, right, those shows were real.)

Danielle Savre is attached to star. You know her...

Danielle is the 18-year-old actress who played a cheerleader and former best friend of Claire. But she was killed by Sylar because he thought she, not Claire, had a super power.

MTV's new entertainment boss Lois Curren has given the "go" to eight and a dozen single-camera episodes. Kaya should premiere in the fall.

The story will be told through flashbacks, present-day scenes and occasional flash-forwards. MTV honcho Brian Graden says Kaya could become a hit because the show can steal from the headlines. "If you look at what's happening with a lot of pop stars, living out a kind of rebellion, this show really parallels that. Will (Kaya) end up shaving her head, or will she find another path to personal redemption?"

MTV's last two scripted shows were the late-night telenovela Undressed in 2002, and the fictional boy band series, 2Gether, which folded in 2001.
