Dollhouse: Another One Bites The Dust

dollhouse canceled

Put another notch on the canceled headboard...Fox just gave Dollhouse the ax. They're going to air the remaining un-aired episodes, so it's not completely murdered.

I'm indifferent on this cancelation...I liked the show, but wasn't married to it at all...not even engaged.

Thoughts? Anyone care?

Oh boy. The Whedonites are really gonna crank up their victimization complex now. Fox has now strangled their sci-fi dreams in their infancy TWICE.

Can't wait for the vows of "I'll never watch Fox again," and the wails of "Why does every show I let get to second base get canceled???????"

zerocool:

I loooved Firefly when it originally aired, so I guess you can call me Whedonite. I didn't watch Dollhouse at all because I knew its fate from the beginning. You know Fox does that all the time - cut down good shows before they can develop a good a strong audience. They shoot themselves in the foot. Then with 20/20 hindsight, it's too late to do anything about it, unless it's animated...Family Guy, anyone?

Well, zerocool, you can't really know if it was a good show if you didn't watch it.

It went on the air before the concept was fully developed, IMO. The lead actress never jelled for me and didn't sustain my interest enough to carry the show. (I don't know if this is the writing or the actress's fault.)

It was voted the "most disappointing returning show"--I believe--by TWoP readers.

I LOOOOVED "Firefly."

One more thought: "Firefly" had interesting characters, a well-thought-out premise, and a number of charismatic actors. That's why it worked and "Dollhouse", for the most part, didn't.

I watch Castle solely because of Nathan Fillion. And I still get sad that there are no more new Buffy episodes.

Hypnotoad:

You know, I'm really not surprised. I'm a huge Buffy fan, but I think a lot of Whedon fans latched onto this series because, well, it's a Whedon series. I watched most of the first season of "Dollhouse," but it was really hard for me to emotionally connect to a character who had a complete lack of her own personality, and then was given a completely new one every week. I was actually surprised that it got renewed for a second season.

Hypnotoad:

NotWithout - on the Dollhouse Facebook page, someone said that all the Dollhouse fans should boycott Glee until Fox brings back Dollhouse. Hee. Good luck, my friends.

Pixielated - when you say you don't know if it was the actress or the writing, I definitely think it was both. Eliza Dushku plays the tough girl awesomely, but I don't necessarily know if she's up to more dramatic roles. She's great at what she does, but I've always thought of her as pretty one-dimensional. And it seems to me that the creators/producers/writers (Whedon involved) came up with this awesome and intriguing idea/premise (which it totally is) but just didn't know what to do with it.
