I love Absolutely Fabulous more than anything in the whole world, but when I got the press release about Fox developing a "redo" of the Jennifer Saunders' British sitcom I got a little worried.
Here's the official scoop: Fox is developing the "new" Ab Fab with Mitch Hurwitz, Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum for Sony Pictures TV and they want to it to take place in L.A. Christine Zander (SNL) is set to write the script and will exec produce along with the BBC's Ian Moffet and original series creator Jennifer Saunders.
This is not the first time "America" has tried to adapt Ab Fab...
Here are the past failed attepts:
1. Rosanne Barr tried to do it with Carrie Fisher for ABC
2. Cybill Shepherd's old sitcom, Cybill was supposed to be Ab Fab-ish
3. CBS did their own version, High Society
So...with that said, will this fourth attempt work??? Who knows. I think Ab Fab will never be Ab Fab without Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley. The show's only saving grace is that Jennifer Saunders is attached. Fingers crossed...
