This poor little girl is being humilli vanilliated! It turns out that nine-year-old Lin Miaoke that "sang" Ode to the Motherland at the Olympics opening ceremony this past Friday was not actually singing. The real singer was Yang Peiyl and poor Yang was not put in front of the crowed "for the national interest." Chen Qigang, the general music designer of the opening ceremonies said, . "The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feeling and expression." So, basically the ruling Communist Party wanted the perfect face and voice. Way to give a little girl a complex at a young age.

I haven't seen a clip of the song-which one was the lip syncher and which was the singer? They are both SO adorable, I can't imagine either of them being considered less than perfect to represent China!

I know! They're both so adorable! The girl pictured on the left is the syncher, and the girl on the right is the singer. I love that it's "national interest" that one is cuter than the other. ridiculous.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the girl on the right was the syncher and the girl on the left was the one who actually sang.
I guess her teeth are better...

georgiababe,
You're absolutely right. I swear that's what I meant to write, I just hit post before proofreading ALWAYS. The girl on the right is the syncher. I'm an idiot.

They are both really adorable, but then again - China hasn't always had a good record of valuing girls in the first place.

Oh Nads, you rock. You're not an idiot. :)
