This is not good, SAG and AFTRA have split. AFTRA has broken off its 27-year bargaining pact with SAG leaving each union to negotiate for themselves. What does that mean? It means the probability of an actors strike has just gotten higher. I was listening to Alan Rosenberg (President of SAG) speak this morning, and his thoughts were that AFTRA betrayed SAG and that AFTRA is going to try to undercut SAG to give studios a better deal. Meaning, the studios will want to work with AFTRA and not SAG. And guess who's ready to negotiate immediately? AFTRA. It's like Wal-Mart is trying to come in to the studios and steal all the business.

As an actor it's better to work SAG because the residuals are much higher, but then again, a lot of cable television and now some network television is AFTRA (so it's easier to work AFTRA for most actors b/c there are more AFTRA TV jobs). Either way, you're screwed if you're not booking anything. I hope they can all put their heads together and come to an agreement. The last thing this town needs is another strike...and the last thing we all need is another strike, I'm still waiting for my shows to come back from the WGA strike.
