Beverly Hills Judge Elden S. Fox said he wanted to make sure he was treating Garrison as he would a non-celebrity. He ordered the actor to undergo a 90-day psychiatric evaluation and come back on to court on Halloween.
Lane Garrison is 27. He crashed his 2001 Land Rover into a tree just before midnight December 2nd, killing 17-year-old passenger Vahagn Setian, 17, a popular student at Beverly Hills High. Two other passemgers, Michelle Ohana and Chen Sagi, both 15, were seriously injured.
About a dozen of the victim's friends and relatives were in court this morning, all wearing T-shirts with Vahagn's picture on the front and James Dean's quote "Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today" on the back.
In May, Lane pleaded guilty to felony vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, among other charges. His lawyer asked that the actor get oprobation and up to a year in county jail. The DA recommended four years and eight months in state prison.
Lane's character on Fox's Prison Break was killed in the show's Oct. 2 episode. He was recently featured in a public service announcement that re-enacts his crash, in which he appears to be holding back tears as he talks about what a stupid and costly mistake he made.
