On the day he makes a cameo on Ugly Betty (above), Tim Gunn announces that he's quitting the Parsons The New School for Design after 25 years-- for a job in the corporate fashion world.
But does the move mean that the Project Runway mentor will be returning for the next season or not?
All we know is that it doesn't mean he's not returning.
Word came today that Tim is leaving his job as chair of the fashion design program for the role of chief creative officer at Liz Claiborne. He'll start his new job on March 5. On the surface, that's a good thing. Tim is the only Runway star not yet signed to the fourth season of the series, and his obligations at the school were said to be a major issue.
But there's still a big "but."
In the announcement from Liz Claiborne, CEO William L. McComb says: "Tim knows we fully support his Bravo projects, including his own upcoming series Tim Gunn's Guide to Style. In fact, it is his involvement in these initiatives and the design world at large that will help keep Tim vital in this new role."
Aha! The job change means that Tim will be available for the new season of Runway. But Runway is based at the Parsons school. And the release from Liz Claiborne does not mention Runway.
Just one request: Please, not Todd Oldham.

My personal feeling is that Tim Gunn will return to Runway with a contract, but Liz Claiborne will be the new mentorship that they give to the designer. These Bravo shows always love to tout their sponsors.
I betcha the Liz people are telling Tim that they want the mentorship if he's gonna work there. Just my $0.02
