Real World Brooklyn: Bromance

Usually, The Real World gives us lots of fake boobies in hot tubs. This year, they tried to do things a little differently. Sure, we got our fake boobies, but instead of floating in the hot tub every single day they were scrunched into prom dresses behind a secretary's desk (Devyn). We even had boobies brought to us by hormone pills (Katelynn/Rick) and lots of working out (Scott).

Another twist this season was in the romance department. There was love, but not the usual "we're on a show so let's try not not make this serious" screw and bail. This time, it was between a Mormon with extremely bad hair and bow ties and a young Army boy who writes songs about tampons. As the Real World comes to a close this week, we'd like to take a little time to pay tribute to one of the gayest straight couples to grace our TVs since Miami Vice.

Real World goes Hollywood

realworld.jpghollywood.jpg

After 20 seasons and 16 years, MTV's The Real World is finally going Hollywood, finally bringing its cast of unknowns into ground zero of the celebrity culture it helped create-- a celebrity culture of fake celebrities who are famous for being famous (and/or for being assholes) and preaching to the rest of the world about how to live while living as hedonistically and hypocritically as possible.

No, seriously...

No. Seriously!

MTV's Real World goes down... under

How's that for a TMZ headline? MTV's original reality franchise heads to Australia in its 19th season, as Real World: Sydney premieres August 19th.

Three males and four women landed in Oz, where they didn't simply go on walkabouts, drink lotsa beer, argue and have sex, but worked for the Contiki Holidays vacation company.

MTV introduces the cast... after the jump...

Coral Smith doubles her chances for a date

coralsmith.jpg

Coral Smith, the brash and busty cast member from The Real World: Back to New York who went on to become a reality TV mainstay on shows like Clash of The Reality TV Stars and Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat, has found herself a new way to keep herself in the spotlight. She's come out as a lesbian.

Well, sort of. In her own words: "I'm definitely venturing toward my lesbian qualities."

Coral raised eyebrows with an apparent relationship with the male Abram Boise on Road Rules: South Pacific, but though they shared a long kiss when he was voted off, Coral later she'd claimed they faked an affair to make good television.

Coral spoke with Outlook magazine during a recent "Gay Day" appearance at Paramount's Great America theme park near San Francisco and as far as we can tell said she's going out with women now. Our favorite quote from the interview is her answer to the question: "Why do you think you were picked for The Real World?"

Laughs, pickles & mystery at Frankie's funeral

frankie%20funeral.jpgfrankie.jpg

It was an overflow crowd at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home in Blue Springs, Missouri, Saturday morning for Frankie Abernathy's funeral. Fifteen year-old kid sister Mamie Hunter led the eulogies, silencing everyone when she walked to the front with purple and magenta hair, making them laugh when she said, "I have a confession to make. This isn't my natural hair color," and making them cry when she explained, "Every day that I knew Frankie, I grew a little more colorful inside. "Her vibrance, it dyed me forever."

Frankie, a memorable castmate from MTV's The Real World: San Diego back in 2004, and the first Real World star to die since AIDS hero Pedro Zamora thirteen years ago, suffered from cystic fibrosis, and that's what her family thinks killed her at 25. But the medical examiner hasn't yet determined the cause (Frankie was a "hard liver" who was found dead in her mother's house eight days ago).

Frankie's hour-long memorial service was a rock 'n' roll affair...
