The Real World ventures Down Under

australia.jpg

The next season of MTV's Real World will take place in the land of Bindi Irwin. The MTV team is heading to Sydney, Australia, where seven young strangers will learn the ins and outs of life and find out if water really does drain clockwise, while cameras roll 24/7.

We've been to Sydney more than once, and discovered one thing about the city that the Real World kids had better be prepared for:

They do a lot of drinking there! So the for its 19th season, the show will move from Denver, where the high altitude makes one get drunk quicker, to a culture where everyone is drunk all day. As they say Down Under: "Good on ya, mates!"

Shooting will take place over a few months and the 24-episode season is set to air late this year. Past seasons have unspooled in New York, L.A., San Francisco, London, Miami, Boston, Seattle, Hawaii, New Orleans, Chicago, Las Vegas, Paris, San Diego, Philadelphia, Austin, Key West and Denver. This is the first time they've dipped into the Southern Hemisphere.

Glad to see Real World expanding their horizons... God forbid they ever set the show in a place where alcohol wasn't on every street corner and the coke dealers didn't exist. Just a thought...

I'm sure this has been covered ages ago by the producers, but why has the Real World not gone to Washington DC yet?? Let's see if this fits typical Real World criteria:

1) Bars, bars, bars: check
2) Town history: check
3) College town: check
4) Young people (college kids) eager to hook up with castmates for camera time: check
5) Beautiful real estate ready for Real World house: check

Can someone else enlighten me as to the reason?
