Pirate is a little different from Survivor, in that the million dollar prize will be spread out and divvied up thropughout the series. "It's high adventure that they're on this pirate ship," says Burnett, "and there's actual money being discovered in the form of gold every week."
And the contestants wear costumes.
Sixteen contestants use maps and compete in physical challenges in search of hidden coins around the (Pirates of The) Caribbean island of Dominica. A "captain," elected by the group, takes half of each week's booty and lives in a fancier cabin with better food and no deck-swabbing.
The captain gets to mark three crew members as potential plank-walkers; one is voted off.
But Burnett says "if he doesn't handle it right, if he pisses them off, there can be a mutiny."
