Q: Who Has The Biggest Tumor? A: ABC!

queenforaday.jpgTV's nightmare has a Dream! Reality mad genius-turned-splatterfilm producer Mike Fleiss is spurting new blood into unscripted television. The man behind The Bachelor, Are You Hot?, The Real Gilligan's Island, and Hostel-- and Heidi Fleiss' cousin-- has a new series idea that ABC is rushing to air as early as next month.

Okay, The Great American Dream Vote isn't really that new. It's a twist on the old Queen for a Day, in which ordinary schlubs see their wishes come true.

Each week, six to eight people will each explain to a studio audience his or her dream and why he or she deserves to have it fulfilled. Then they'll square off in head-to-head heats, with the audience eliminating the least worthy. At the end of each show, home viewers will get to vote on two or three finalists.

Sounds pathetic! Sounds like Regis Philbin better steam-clean his tuxedo. But Fleiss cautions that that the show can't be too sappy. In what has to be the greatest quote of the week...

...he tells Variety:

"If it gets maudlin, it doesn't work. It can't be, Who Has the Biggest Tumor?"

Think, he says, "a mother of quintuplets who dreams of having a proper back yard" or "a 22-year-old bald guy who dreams of a life with hair."

Entry, he says, is open to "anyone. With or without talent."

ABC has got five episodes on the fast track.

Middle America will eat this stuff up, just like "Extreme Makeover, Home Edition" with an element of competition.

I got to admit that I like the "Who has the biggest tumor" idea better.
