Mark Burnett is fighting for another reality hit

With flopperoos Pirate Master and On The Lot clinging to life on CBS and Fox and the combination of the two summer stinkers leading some to declare the end of reality TV's first Golden Era, producer Mark Burnett is heading back to his roots. The former British commando is teaming with a "mixed martial arts" company to develop a primetime reality series involving the combat sport. Will he find another Survivor? We're guessing he forgot about The Contender...

Burnett's made a deal with ProElite, Inc., which produces professional mixed martial arts events through a division called EliteXC (Showtime's been carrying their fights since February), Elite CC will sign up all the contestants.

Though there aren't a lot of details beyond moving the headlines away from Pirate and Lot, it is Burnett's second shot at developing a martial arts series, and sounds a bit to us like The Search for The American Warrior, the show with former kickboxing champion Olivier Gruner that was pitched and made some headlines a few years ago.
