Smallville finds its Supergirl

lauravandervoort.jpgThe CW has finally found a kissin cousin for Clark Kent when Smallville returns in the fall. Well, maybe not kissin'. But they have cast a sexy Supergirl.

Laura Vandervoort has flown away with the role of the blonde superheroine.

The biggest surprise is that she's not a British thespian (from Fox's Terminator sequel to The Bionic Wiman, Britchicks seem to be grabbing all the TV actiongirl roles).

She is Canadian, though. And 22. And she's not exactly Royal Shakespeare Company material. Her previous experience includes playing an "angel with perky wings" in a Philadelphia Cream Cheese commercial.

But she's got the chops-- and all-important teen recognition...

For the past few years, she's played Sadie Harrison on Instant Star, the Canadian teen music drama that shows up on The N network.

The Toronto-born Supergirl is also got a second-degree black belt in karate.

Supergirl will be introduced to Smallville in the season premiere.
