The network was set to the shelve the show indefinitely and replace it with the New York City Irish mob drama, The Black Donnellys, on March 5th. But now the Donnellys premiere has been moved up a week. So it gets the prime 10 pm slot after Heroes, beginning February 26th-- the night after The Oscars®.
They're probably hoping to catch some Academy Award® draft, seeing that Donnellys comes from last year's Best Picture® producers, and Martin Scorsese is expected to get a best director statue® for his Boston Irish mob flick, The Departed (which could even maybe possibly win for Best Picture®-- but you'll have to ask Sutter Cane about that).
Studio 60 is bound to be the subject of future TV & Radio Museum retrospectives, for all the wrong reasons. The high-priced dramedy about life behind a live network comedy series got off to a bad start in the research phase when Lorne Michaels refused to allow creator Aaron Sorkin behind the scenes of Saturday Night Live. Since then, it's veered cluelessly from clumsy political sermonizing to clumsy Chayefskian TV lecturing to clumsy romantic comedy-- to this week's flashback episode, in which Matthew Perry was fitted with a backwards baseball cap so he'd appear to be seven years younger.
Once again, NBC has not set any date for its return.
