Survivor host and keeper of the flame Jeff Probst is biting the hand that feeds him, coming out and admitting what viewers have known for weeks now: This season hasn't been up to snuff.
"I cannot argue with the audience. I can feel that it has not been as fulfilling because it has been unfair. " Jeff says of Survivor: Fiji. "If you look at this (the rich-versus-poor twist) as a mistake then we certainly didn't have luck but I will say the season isn't over yet."
And Jeff's complaints about the direction of the show reveal a rift with executive producer, the reality TV kingpin Mark Burnett.
Jeff says the the "rich versus poor" twist-- the one that Burnett ripped off from his own Apprentice-- has slanted the game in favor of the Moto Tribe. He says he would have forced the "rich tribe" to defend its luxuries every week.
"We didn't know if people would get confused over where they were living. We just decided to go for it, winner take all and see what happens."
Jeff says the biggest mistake this season was allowing Ravu a chance to win Moto's beach at an Immunity Challenge a few weeks ago. And he slams his boss again, saying he fought against it, but that Burnett overruled him.
"This is what I would call an idea that didn't work out so well."
The repercussions? There are rumors that the next season of Survivor will be another All-Star edition.
There's also talk that Burnett might get some revenge on his uppity host (who also gets a producer credit). He's considering a cold Survivor season-- in Canada.
Oh yeah, ever the showman, Jeff adds one note: he promises the show will get better. Starting tomorrow night. "I am just happy that the audience sticks with us to see how it plays out."

I have been a fan of Survivor from the beginniing, but it definitely IS getting old. They need to go back and review the early seasons and pull out the top 5 or so and recycle them.
I, personally, would rather see Survivor, Amazing Race, America's Next Top Model, Project Runway, Real World, etc., on ONCE A YEAR rather than twice. It is so obvious from the formats and participants that there has been a rush to put the shows together.
Take some time. Spend that time brainstorming and coming up with some great new ideas, challenges, etc., and then bring us some exciting and fun new shows.
Look at Real World. If you aren't a drunk, gay or sex addicted you are either not cast or have a minimal participation in the show.
Or they resort to the "All Star" format (i.ee., Big Brother).
Amazing Race seems to have gotten the message altho there could be more time between seasons.
And let the audience select who participates in the All Star competitions (i.e., Big Brother).
I know it is easy to sit at home and be critical, but I am disabled and watch a LOT of tv. I just think these producers need to take more time, bring in some fresh minds, (heck, have a former contestant offer suggestions), and bring us some newly refreshed and renovated programs.
