Survivor heads to China

china.jpgThe next season of Survivor will be filmed in China. The big journey following the fourteenth season will be the fifth move away from an island setting, and the first since Survivor: Guatemala in Season 11.

It will also make Survivor: China the first entire series shot by an American network on the mainland. US production in mainland China has been very rare because of government restrictions and logistics, but the country has become more open as it nears the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Producer Mark Burnett may have gotten an edge from Steven Spielberg, his partner in On the Lot, the Hollywood reality series that premieres May 22nd on Fox.

Spielberg is China's "artistic director" for the Olympic games and will help stage the opening ceremonies.

In light of China's human rights record and Mia Farrow's campaign against the "Genocide Olympics," expect protests.

Cool, I was getting tired of the same old settings. But does this mean there will be no exile island?

I didn't know Guatemala was an island.

I've read that they were scouting locations in the South China Sea -- do we know for sure that it is going to be "mainland China"? It could very well still be an island we see these fame-whores compete upon.
