Jon Stewart dinner shakes up late night

An interesting dinner meeting could lead to unexpected reshuffling of late night talk show hosts as NBC boss Jeff Zucker wined and dined fake news anchor Jon Stewart and his agent. Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno were also at the table, but only in spirit, becauseConan is set to take over The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2009, and NBC needs someone to fill Conan's 12:30 am slot.

Aha! But it gets more complicated...

Lately, Leno has been squeaking that he maybe wants to stay, and NBC, which is making tons of money from Leno's lowbrow, often amateurish show (see The Late Show with David Letterman for comparison), has been letting rumours fly that they may let Conan go with a $40-million dollar bye-bye.

And that could be bad, or at least merciful news for Jimmy Kimmel.

TiVo Alert: The Late Show with Adam Sandler

letterman.jpgchimp.jpgsandler.jpg

David Letterman, the least-healthy of the late night talk show hosts, has gone home sick today. So his scheduled guest is filling in as host of The Late Show tonight. Adam Sandler has been rehearsing with the show's writers and producers all this afternoon. He's called in Don Cheadle to take his place as lead guest-- very convenient, since their maudlin 9/11 movie, Reign Over Me (isn't it Love Reign O'er Me?) opens Friday.

And you can bet, if he's in town, Rob Schneider will show.

In the past, Dave's missed shows because of heart surgery (five weeks) and shingles (a month). What is it this time?

Dave & Bill's 25th anniversary reunion

murrayletterman.jpg

Guests on Late Show with David Letterman Thursday night include basketball star LeBron James and Bill Murray.

The show marks Dave's 25th anniversary in late-night television. Bill Murray was the first guest on Dave's first late night show, Late Night with David Letterman, when it premiered on NBC on February 1st, 1982-- two years and eleven months before LeBron was born.

Murray is one of the Letterman favorites who always arrives well-prepared with exclusive, pre-scripted material, so this reunion of the grizzled, six-foot-one comedy giants should be memorable.
