Next Week: TBS Premieres My Boys and 10 Items Or Less

As long as your television blog reachers at least 50 people, the great people who work public relations for various networks and studios start to get to work. By the time you get to be the size of TVgasm, reaching millions of people a month, keeping track of all of the press releases is more difficult than riding the teacups after a bottle of gin, or doing anything after a bottle of gin for that matter. The people trying to get the word out know this and try to come up with creative ways to get our attention. In recent weeks, the most creative team of individuals are the folks over at TBS trying to get the word out for two new comedies, My Boys, premiering Monday, Nov. 27th at 11PM EST and 10 Items Or Less, premiering one day later, Tuesday, Nov. 28th at 10PM EST.

Everybody sends the DVD screeners and the press kits, but TBS upped the ante when trying to think of ways to make sure My Boys and 10 Items or Less were not far from our minds. This all culminated last week when we received an entire Thanksgiving dinner (if you like all your stuff to come out of a can or box), which I promptly donated to a local food drive. Read about both of these new shows after the jump.

10 Items or Less

(Official Site - Premieres Nov. 27th 11PM EST) TBS is heading for the express checkout lane with 10 Items or Less, a new comedy series that combines scripted and improvisational elements. The series, created by acclaimed comedy improv actor John Lehr, goes behind the scenes at a family-owned grocery store being run by a host of interesting characters.

In 10 Items or Less, Lehr plays Leslie Pool, who returns to his native Ohio to run the Green & Grains grocery store he has just inherited from his father. His somewhat dysfunctional staff includes Carl (Robert Clendenin – That '70s Show), the sweet, doofus stockboy who serves as Leslie's sidekick; Yolanda (Roberta Valderrama – ER), the straight-talking dominant force in the produce department who's also pregnant with Carl's baby; Buck (Greg Davis Jr. – The King of California), the bagger who is looking towards the future by attending night school; Ingrid (Kirsten Gronfield – Steve Saves L.A.), the quirky-soft-spoken customer service representative who lives for Renaissance festivals; Richard (Christopher Liam Moore – Judging Amy), the dignified cashier who dreams of becoming a professional ice dancer; and Todd (Chris Payne Gilbert – The Broken Hearts Club), the sexy butcher who hopes one day to be a stock car driver.

Seeking to undermine Green & Grains is Leslie's arch nemesis, Amy (Jennifer Elise Cox – Lovespring International), who manages the Super Value Mart down the street. He has known her since high school, where she was the popular beauty queen and he, a nerd

My Boys

(Official Site - Premieres Nov. 28th 10PM EST - Sneak Preview) Being "one of the guys" can mean a lot of great things: poker games, pick-up softball games, watching sports or just hanging out at a favorite bar. But for PJ Franklin, played by Jordana Spiro (JAG, Must Love Dogs), being a girl who’s one of the guys can be challenging.

PJ (Jordana Spiro) is a twenty-something sports reporter for the Chicago Sun Times. At first glance, she’s a typical young single woman--smart, attractive, outgoing, personable. Her boys are her family, which sometimes hinders PJ's dating life, as the men she tries to date don't know how to react to her unconventional interests and the all-important men in her life.

PJ’s group of friends includes her brother, Andy (Jim Gaffigan), whose wife keeps him on an all-too-short leash; Mike (Jamie Kaler), a commitment-challenged ladies man who works for the Chicago Cubs; Kenny (Michael Bunin), a sports-memorabilia store owner who hasn't mastered the art of dating; and Brendan (Reid Scott), a hard-rock DJ whose on-again, off-again romance with his girlfriend often leaves him crashing at PJ's apartment; and the most recent addition to the group, Bobby (Kyle Howard) a sportswriter for the Chicago Tribune, the Windy City's rival newspaper. PJ's friend Stephanie (Kellee Stewart), who she's known since journalism school, does her best to give PJ advice on men and dating from a more female point-of-view.
