What? She's a teacher!

The Parents Television Council (PTC) Family Guide to TV is the most comprehensive study of this year's network prime time fare -- from a family-values perspective -- and it is the only content-based guide in existence.

The PTC has ranked the 20 most popular prime time broadcast shows (does not include cable TV) for children aged 2-17, based on suitability.

Green Light Shows: Family friendly, promoting responsible themes & traditional values. "Most Suitable":

1. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"
2. "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?"
3. "Don't Forget the Lyrics"
4. "Deal or No Deal"
5. "NBC Sunday Night Football"
6. "American Idol"

Home Make-over? I hate this show. It makes me feel like I want to be disabled & all my offspring in wheelchairs or I'm extremely poor, with 10 kids, so I can have truckloads of new stuff & a brand new house.
I don't understand why Football is on this list at all. It's an extremely violent sport & it's sponsors are mostly beer companies.
American Idol?? You have a drug-induced judge, who doesn't know what's going on half the time & one who relishes in the fact that he can tear down a contestants self-esteem with his mean-spirited, sarcastic comments. The other judge has dialogue that consists of "YO DAWG" & "It's a little pitchy".
Deal or No Deal? It teaches kids that the Banker giveth & taketh away. (hmmmmm, parents can use this show as an example as to why they live with grandma now.)

Yellow Light Shows: These contain adult-oriented themes & dialogue that may be inappropriate. "Suitable":

7. "Dancing with the Stars"
8. "So You Think You Can Dance"
9. "America's Got Talent"
10. "The Amazing Race"
11. "Survivor"
12: "King of the Hill"
13. "The Simpsons"
14. "American Gladiator"

I can accept these shows as 'suitable'. They are my favorites and should be in the "Most Suitable" list.

Red Light Shows: These include gratuitous sex, explicit, dialogue, violent content or obscene language. "Not Suitable":

15. "Hell's Kitchen"
16. "House"
17. "Heroes"
18. "Moment of Truth"
19. "American Dad"
20. "Family Guy"

Ok... here's where I have to speak up!! I don't see Gordon Ramsey of "Hell's Kitchen" any different that Simon Cowell from "American Idol". Gordon may swear on occasion, but it's bleeped out. His temperment is about the same as Simon's though. They both use demeaning tactics to make a person look & feel foolish. It's great TV, but why is one "Most Suitable" and the other is "Not Suitable".

I find "Family Guy" & American Dad" simply moronic is all. "Moment of Truth" wasn't even appropriate for my dog, And why the hell is "House" even on this list??? "Desperate Housewives" should be there instead.

cattyfan:

Maybe the reviewers object to Hell's Kitchen because so many of the contestants are shown smoking...

Meanwhile, the NFL is fine to watch...because, ya know, it provides such marvelous role models for our youth.

I'd love to know what criteria was used to create this stupid list.
