Death & Divorce Top the Ratings List!

Who are these people & why are they here?

No, they are not the fans outside Neverland. See who they are after the jump.......

This is Chicago's most talented, waiting to audition for NBC's #1 show, America's Got Talent. YES! NBC has finally made it to the top. After all the hoopla over Susan Boyle on Britain's Got Talent, viewers were primed & ready for the US version. 11.5 million people tuned in last Tuesday for it's premiere, taking the #1 spot on the Nielson list. Wednesday night, America's Got Talent came in #3 with 10.4 million still tuning in to see everything from the utterly awful to the surprisingly poignant talents. Once again, we have that snotty, egomanical Piers Morgan, the kind-hearted Sharon Osborne & 'over-the-top' David "The Hoff" Hasselhoff. Gone is Jerry Springer, replaced by a newer, younger, more 'user' friendly Nick Cannon of Nickelodeon fame. Viewers obsessed with that enigma NCIS managed to wedge a repeat into the #2 spot with 11.1 million mindlessly following the show.

"Hoff, you get first dibs on licking me after the auditions."

It was an unusual week with networks scrambling to get anything & everything on the air that had to do with the passing of Michael Jackson. Earlier in the week, Farrah Fawcett, of Charlie's Angels fame, succumbed after a long, public battle with cancer & got squeezed out of the limelight. Viewers didn't forget her though. ABC's 20/20 special on Farrah & her life came in at #8 with over 8 million paying their respects to the fallen angel (had to say it). CBS's Michael Jackson special garnered a little over 7 million viewers & took the #13 spot.

This IS Farrah.

NBC also premiered it's newest show The Philanthropist right after America's Got Talent on Tuesday night & although it lost 4 million lead-in viewers, it still made the list at #16. The reviews have been really good & it's something I'm going to have to check out next week. The guy's kinda nice to look at too!

Cable TV had some record-breaking events this past week. Because of the King of Pop's sudden death, the 2009 BET Awards wiped out Jon & Kate Plus 8 in viewership. The break-up of Jon & Kate WAS #1 until Michael died (they budged out "J&K" by less than 500,000 viewers). Suddenly watching these awards was "must see TV". Entertainers put together last minute performances & Michael's asshole father was front & center in the audience. Even his sister showed up at the last minute to say a few words. I'll bet Kate's pissed.

I knew Michael Jackson and Mr. Foxx, you are no Michael Jackson!

Bet Janet wished she had an album to promote & as for Joe Jackson, he's the one who should be kept away from all children.

Jon & Kate Plus 8 on TLC hit the top of the list last week with 10.6 million people watching their lives crumble on national TV. I admit that I was one of them. I've only watched a few of these shows so I don't have the emotional involvement that some viewers seem to have. There was hardly any footage of these 'adorable' kids I've heard so much about. I thought the one little girl was kind of bratty to the dude building her a "crooked house". The drama between the parents was enticing though. I think they should forget about the kids & focus on this "War of the Roses" type reality for awhile. Keep the kids out of the limelight for one season.
