The pretty ugly truth about Ugly Betty's ugly campaign

So what are we missing here? A mere ten days ago, ABC launched its "pro-social" "public service" Be Ugly 07 campaign to promote its chickhit Ugly Betty. Be Ugly 07, they claimed, "challenges conventional perceptions and stereotypes of real beauty and promotes self esteem and empowerment," and urged Americans "to resolve to be real, be smart, be passionate, be true to yourself and be ugly, just like Ugly Betty in 2007."

So there's America Ferrera, the chubby cutie who plays Betty Suarez, running around this week, sporting a sexy Andersonesque tight t-shirt on TRL (above left), and on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine, photoshopped, airbrushed and nipped and tucked to stereotypically beautiful perfection. Is it us?

We thought Ugly Betty was making it cool to be plain. And we thought the be ugly campaign-- you know, forget Rosie vs. Trump. We're waiting for comment from Rachel Dratch.

Love the Dratch, and love the Ferarra. Ugly people should be encouraged to look as well groomed and cute. Go Cosmo.
