Jack’s Back

24

jacks_back.jpgWe haven’t spent a lot of time hyping it up too much, but this weekend marks the return of one of the TVgasm flagship programs, 24. In case you haven’t caught on, we LOVE 24. By now, the premise of the show needs no explanation, but the program follows, in “real” time, a day with the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) in Los Angeles. There are numerous characters that you will meet during the show, but none is more important or more bad-ass than Jack Bauer, last seen faking his own death in order to flee prosecution from the Chinese consulate. Because FOX needs to fit 22 episodes in the space you would normally reserve for 10 or 12, we’ll have 2 hours of 24 this Sunday, January 15th, and Monday January 16th (check local listings). It may seem like a lot of television, but that just means more bastards for Jack to take down. I heard his tears can cure cancer, which is too bad because he never cries (OK, maybe just once). So set your Tivos and return to TVgasm for a discussion of all of the hard perimeters from the night before.

I cannot WAIT for 24 to start. Everyone in my life KNOWS not to call me when it is on, because I won’t answer.
I would love to read a quick overview of the last couple of hours of 24 last year. I seem to have forgotten where we left off. (outside of Jack faking his own death). I suppose I could go back and read the recaps, but….its…..so much…..information…. :)

    OMG……OMG……OMG……OMG……OMG……OMG……OMG……OMG……OMG……OMG……OMG……OMG……OMG……!!!!!

I have been counting this down. I cannot WAIT!!!!!

Although, I was stupid enough to go on some 24 forum and read a bit of a spoiler. I HATE MYSELF for doing that ’cause it pissed me off!!

Oh well….have you heard? JACK’S BACK!!!

I’m so stoked it’s not even funny. Just when it seems like they can’t top themselves anymore, they do it. I’m guessing this season will see Jack tear off a guy’s arm and beat him with it, then blow up the entire Eastern Hemisphere to save his daughter.

Doodle — I am the same way. I will send out email reminders to my family not to call. Or if they do, they know that I absolutely will not answer. They don’t understand that this show has no reruns, you must listen intently to the dialogue, and it moves pretty quickly. I can hear the answering machine from where I am sitting if it is an emergency.

I convinced my dad that it is the greatest show EVA, he started watching it season 2 and my sister rented all the DVDs in one weekend and is part of our cult….and now we call each other on the commercial breaks and hang up without saying goodbye if the show comes back on….You don’t have to tell me, my life is a little sad……

I’ve been waiting for this weekend for a LONG time. I spent my winter break from college watching a few… okay several… episodes of 24 every day. I watched seasons 1-4 and I am ready ready ready for season 5. The promos look so great! My favorite prediction that I’ve read online so far is that Kim goes crazy and kills everyone, and then season 2′s mountain lion comes back and kills Kim. Finally.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t a TVgasm reader during the past 4 seasons, but I will be here at the end of every episode, refreshing the page until I see the recap. I have that much time on my hands. And that much love for TVgasm.

I hate to admit it, but I think I like 24 more than Lost. Podger has recruited many friends and family into the 24 cult. We are having a kick-off party Sunday night with tons of friends, food, drinks, and then the entire crowd is going to be glued to the TV. In the middle of last year’s season, we were in the middle of adopting our daughter from China and I was FREAKING OUT that Jack was going to piss off the real Chinese government and they would stop international adoptions (silly, Podger knows)! We’ve been to China now and are back with her now in America and, so, LIVE JACK LIVE!

It’s finally back! I have never missed an episode since the beginning and I won’t miss one this year either – the reviews are just getting me more and more stoked. I may be male, married, and with a child, but if Jack Bauer wanted to have his way with me I would ask when. And if you’ve never lived through a season with TVGasm as your 24 recapper, you are in for a treat!

    Can’t wait Can’t wait Can’t wait!

    Back off, bitch. Jack’s mine.

    Bauer's Sweetheart
    Posted January 13, 2006 at 10:18 pm

Ahem, there seems to be only one person here known as “Bauer’s Sweetheart” . . . but I guess that puts me in danger of: 1. death; 2. having a sister for a terrorist and then being dismissed with one line about returning a jacket; 3. being killed in the back of a pickup truck in Mexico; 4. watching my husband die at the hands of my lover. I’m getting turned on already!

Didn’t know about the gasm last year, so looking forward to sharing this season here. If the recaps are as good as the Big Brother ones, I will be one happy camper. As much as I love Jack (and I’m happily married with 4 kids, but would walk away in a minute if Jack knocked on my door, ha ha), I also love the characters of Edgar and Chloe, both in an annoying, irritating kind of way, but still fascinating. Does anyone know if they will be back this year?

I think Edgar and Chloe are both back, but I don’t know for how long. It’s very 24-like to kill off characters like that for shock value, and the promos for the opening episode say something like “the first 10 minutes will shock you”. My guess is one of them bites the dust right away.

I can’t wait!!! My daughter and I will not answer the phone, or even talk to other family members when 24 is on, and they all damn well know that Jack and his efforts to save the world are far more important than ANYTHING they have to say during that hour! One of my equally addicted friends was occasionally busy during the first 1/2 an hour or so of each episode, so I would make an exception, take her call, then talk her thru what was happening until she got home and turned it on! We even bought those WWJD bracelets, but ours stand for “What would JACK do???” 24 rox!!

I forgot to tape the premiere for my husband. I am checking with friends here to see who might have a copy. If not, is there someone out there who might be willing to send me theirs? Any way to transfer this digitally?

    Suebee,

If I forgot to tape 24 for my husband, he would divorce me. Or have the Russians come after me.

I wish I had taped it. I would happily send it out to you. Might I suggest the IMDb message board? There is probably someone on there who taped it.
