666 Park Avenue Recap: Happy Helloween!

Gavin gets threatening texts from an untraceable phone while he’s out walking with Olivia. The text warns that he is going to have to pay for everything he’s done. A truck almost runs over Olivia, who’s on the phone and distracted. Gavin gets a second text that says “next time, I won’t miss.”

Later, at the Halloween party, Olivia is guarding a friend who she dared to stay alone for five minutes in one of the Drake’s haunted apartments. A mysterious gas-masked man knocks her out, drags her away and cuts power to the building. He then calls Gavin and says that he has Gavin’s wife. Gavin’s ready to pay any amount to get Olivia back, but the voice says it’s not about money, it’s about letting Gav know he’s not invulnerable. The voice says Gavin can have Olivia back IF he can find her in time. Gavin dispatches Tony to the penthouse to look for her, but Tony ends being hanged in a noose. (I know, what else would he be hanged in?) Gavin gets there in time to save him and finds Olivia knocked out on the terrace chaise.

He revives Olivia, who doesn’t remember anything. Then he looks into his wall safe and finds the gas mask. He takes a mysterious phone call in which he says “You have no idea what you’ve stolen.” The voice says “Oh, but I do.” Then Gavin tells the voice to return the “box” before it’s too late for both of them. When the voice refuses, Gavin says he’s coming for him.

The smoke man who materialized out of the suitcase last week turns out be a Mr. Peter Kramer, who killed his wife with a hatchet on Halloween in 1929. Before going all Lizzie Borden on her, Peter told his wife that “in Heaven, you’re going to be truly happy.” The Ghost Brat is actually Peter’s daughter and she somehow escaped him by hiding under the bed. Before she died, Mrs. Peter gave the little girl a necklace to keep safe and it’s actually Jane’s grandmother’s necklace!

Now Peter is back from the dead and roaming the halls of the Drake. He goes down to the basement and finds his trusty hatchet and he says he’s all ready to finish the job (whatever that is).

At the Drake Halloween party, Louise spills a drink on Jane’s Doran-provided Tippi Hedren costume, so she has to go upstairs to change.

As she’s getting dressed, the Ghost Brat shows up to tell her that “daddy” (Peter) escaped from the suitcase. Jane examines the suitcase, which is now empty except for a newspaper account of the murder. Jane recognizes the man in the photo as the guy she and Henry just rode the elevator with and who complimented her necklace. Peter catches up to Jane as she’s Googling his story and tries to choke her. She escapes into the hall where she finds some hapless guy and borrows his phone to call 911. But Peter is right behind him and plants the hatchet in his head. Jane then tries to escape through a dumbwaiter. Meantime, the power is still out in the whole building because of the masked madmen.

@alice It is real its called The Ansonia.

I wish Nona was in this episode, since her vision of Jane happened.

I don’t understand why that Dr. guy told Louise he would give her something, if he knew she had become addicted. Was is so he could confront her about it or so she could make a pass at her?

I’m not surprised Jane isn’t the one who doesn’t want to get married. Why else would she get so defensive when people bring it up?

SnoopK8, glad to hear you’re safe! You had the perfect excuse to skip the recap this week, so thanks for getting one to us.

This episode had me going into full on speculations mode. Like, did the voice of the guy threatening Gavin on the phone remind anyone else of Tony’s voice (in terms of the cadence). I kind of have a feeling that Tony is not the total affable chump he’s presenting himself to be. And I also wonder if Olivia might not also be in on it — I wonder if she might be trying to find things out about her dear husband, in reaction to the “suicide” note from her daughter (although I have a feeling that we’re going to find out that her daughter isn’t really dead…)

And it seems as though they are suggesting that the little ghost girl is actually Olivia’s grandmother or great grandmother? But if she survived the massacre and grew up to have children, then why does she appear as a ghost in little girl form? But I guess we’ll find out when the time comes whether that speculation is true.

A few things still bug the hell out of me with this show though. The plot fascinates me, but so often the characters react in ways that make no damn sense.

Like Jane — why the hell would she run to basement to try to escape an axe murder, when she could just run to the lobby and either out the front entrance or into the party where there are loads of people to help her? And why, when she’s running from the guy with the axe, would she stop in the hallway to make a phone call to 911 (without telling the guy whose phone she’s borrowed that she’s being chased by a guy with an axe, by the way), instead of trying to get both of them to a place where they can hide from the guy who is chasing her? And in the same vein, why would she waste time hugging Henry in the doorway after she escapes axe guy the final time instead of grabbing him and saying”Do you have a gun? No? Then let’s get the hell out of here before the guy with the axe comes and hacks us!” I mean, yes, axe guy was incapacitated by the birds, but she couldn’t know that for sure. She didn’t even look over her shoulder to make sure he wasn’t coming.

And for the first time, Gavin joined the stupid train as well. If Olivia is so damn important to him (for the most part, he seems sincere about that sentiment) then why would he entrust her safety to the supposedly affable chump of a doorman rather than a) hiring her a real bodyguard or b) watching over her himself? Makes no damn sense.

Still loving the show though, and can’t wait to see what happens next…

I’m with you, Lizbot…I think Tony is the voice on the phone, same as Gasmask Man. I also think, too, that the little girl is either Jane’s grandmother, or is connected to said Grandma in the way back past and had given the necklace to her.

glad you’re safe — do you have power yet? we miraculously never lost ours (other than a few minutes), but almost everyone around us did, obviously.

i kinda wish they’d skip this peter trying to kill people in 2012 shit. i don’t see how it really adds anything to the show.

I thought the voice on the phone was Tony too. Since the beginning I thought Nona was Olivia’s dead daughter. After seeing Nona’s decaying grandmother in the wheelchair, I don’t know.
