tvgasm_updateSo, with the new year brings new changes, and we recently had to make a change to our commenting system. One of the reasons that TVgasm is great is the way our readers contribute to the discussion, and since we have been in business, we haven’t placed any restrictions on participation. What that means is that you didn’t have to use a username and password to leave a comment. In 2006, we’ll be requiring commenters to sign in using TypeKey. The main reason for this is to prevent comment spam, as it was becoming increasingly difficult to prevent comment spam using traditional methods. The other reason is that there have been people who have been faking other commenters names with increasing regularity, and in order to keep these people from repeating this, authentication is a must

Before you get too crazy, you should know that TypeKey will still allow you to post with a pseudonym, and it will still be up to you whether you share your e-mail with us or not (we don’t publish your e-mails anyway). You may choose to display any name you wish on your comments, but we’ll have the TypeKey identifier in our records in case somebody tries to post comments using your name, and we’ll be able to ban that person if they don’t stop. This may prevent some people from commenting on posts, but you are always welcome to contact TVgasm authors via e-mail, which we list on the about page. To sign up for TypeKey, click here.     what i find most amusing is the people who went ahead with signing up for a typepad identity if only to be able to post a bitching comment.

    *note i did not say “bitchin” comment. there is nothing cool about being a whiny jerk.

    Some other people have figured out how to get spaces in their names, so it can be done. Perhaps The_Svan should go through the intricacies of his/her TypeKey account information before getting so upset?

    Re: fascism:

    Surely The Svan, as well as The_Svan, know that all webservers keep a record of everybody who has visited (no to mention the blog system keeps track of all comments using several criteria) and that his/her apparent civil rights lovefest with this blog was a grand illusion anyway?

    This makes it a grand total of three postsfor me! I read the site almost daily but hardly ever post…I love most of the regular posters (or at least appreciate their quirks), but some of these “new people” are a real drag…
    Can’t wait for shows to get out of reruns!!!! I enjoy the writing and the snark. You all do a fabulous job :)

    I signed up too. I miss posting, but at least with The Bachelor, Beauty and The Geek, and Lost and Veronica Mars coming back soon there will be more snark to look forward to. I love TVGasm!
