Fringe: Fairchild

It was part two of the season finale of Fringe last night, and it lived up to the dazzling standard set by the first part. Seriously, is it even possible to have a bad episode set in an evil alternate universe? Olivia and William Bell managed to smuggle Walter out of the hospital while remaining one step ahead of Alternate Olivia and Alternate Not-Dead Charlie. Olivia met up with her slinky, red-haired, leather-wearing alternate-universe counterpart and tried to talk her into helping them out. It didn’t go too well. The two Olivias first pulled guns on each other, then punched and kicked each other for a while. Our Olivia eventually got the upper hand. Disguised as Alternate Olivia, she found Peter and broke the news that Walternate wanted to use him as the power source for his device to destroy our universe. Peter, smart boy that he is, kind of already worked that out by himself. Even when faced with evidence that Walternate is much nastier

than Walter, Peter was reluctant to return to our universe… but then Olivia laid a big smooch on him, which short-circuited his brain and made him sort of forget he was mad at Walter.

Meanwhile, William Bell and Walter squabbled up a storm while manufacturing a device to help Olivia open up a return path back to our universe. Bell nobly sacrificed himself in the process, which I guess means Leonard Nimoy is going to make good on his promise to retire from acting, huh? Olivia, Peter and Walter made it safely home. But wait! Alternate Olivia pulled a last-minute switch! The season ended with our Olivia in captivity in the alternate universe, while Alternate Olivia assumed Olivia’s life and identity on this side. Good stuff. Can’t wait for fall to see how Olivia gets herself out of this mess.
