Last night on RuPaul’s Drag U, it was Dateless Divas! Perfect–a bunch of sexually frustrated women who haven’t dated in decades surrounded by penises who have even less interest in them than they’re used to!

We meet Lenae, a 48 year old woman who hasn’t dated in 21 years and apparently has a fetish for strawberries, men younger than her son (that’s my girl…), making out with mannequin heads and still having imaginary friends. She gets to work with Professor Raven who transforms her into a Marilyn-esque “Honey Boom”. Our second contestant, Pegah, is a 28 year old Mama’s girl who hasn’t had a date in 6 years (see “Mama’s girl). She’s creepily close to her mother and with the hard work of Professor Nina Flowers, she turns from a potentially scary lady who will live with 19 cats, all named “Mother” into an S & M queen named Electra 21. Our third contestant is little Debbie (no, not the delicous snack cake) who has lived in her sister’s shadow for 32 years and was told her whole life that she was the smart one while her sister was the pretty one. Silly parents–they’re both average and a little slow, but nice try. With the help of Morgan McMichaels, she becomes Moxy Mayhem–a crazy Asian fusion of Geisha and Marie Antoinette.

After much rehearsing and hard work for their draguation slaughtering, um performance, of “I’m Every Woman”, the backstage wig drama, the fake date to build self-confidence and the odd sexual assault against a mannequin, our ladies are up to be judged by Lady Bunny, Frank Gatson Jr and Taylor Dayne (Yay!!! I love me some Taylor Dayne!!!). Pegah, as Electra 21, thrills the crowd (even Mumsy) with her whip and her costume malfunction, but comes in 3rd. Debbie, as Moxy Mayhem, comes in 2nd, even when she shows off her ass-ets and shows an actual personality. But it’s Honey Boom who shakes, waddles and damned near rolls her way to victory as the second transformed bio-woman to dragulate with honors! All I’ve got to say is that when the contestants are more over the top than the drag professors–it is one hell of a grisly, yet hysterical sight…

Have to say, the transformations came at the last second, but were so strong! I would say Little Debbie’s performance was a giant FU to her sis (who I did find prettier, and I hate myself for saying it-she had a very relaxed confidence) Kinda thought Moxy was robbed, but both grrrls were strong at part two. Kuddos to Pegah for bringing her inner Dom out too, hope she kept the whip!

I know that Ru is a lady of a certain age, but she needs to have her lady boys and real women lip synch to some more current songs…. where are the divas like Mary J. Blige, Deborah Cox, Beyonce, etc.? Ru’s references are a little old and isn’t this show a rip-off of that show on VH1 hosted by Tranny LaVerne, from I Wanna Work for Diddy, Season 1.
