How about the next great American TV host?

The Next Great American Band

The foreign (British) producers of American Idol couldn’t find one American performer qualified to host the Idol spin-off, The Next Great American Band (and why should they, what with broadcast giants like Cat Deeley, Denise van Outen and Cameron Daddo bouncing around the airwaves?). At least that’s how things look, with the rumour that they’ve hired kd lang-lookalike and New Zealand Idol host Dominic Bowden to move up to the big game.

Dom appears to be a host in the Dunkelman-Ant & Dec mold, who once got to meet his own idol, Ryan Seacrest, as you can see above.

And see more of him… after the jump…dom.jpgDom recently hosted the Kiwi reality singing show Pop’s Ultimate Star and Are You Smarter Than A 10 Year Old? He also plays a character named Sheldon Snake in a new New Zealand movie.

The folks at New Zealand Reality TV, who refer to Dom as Dominic “Plastic” Bowden (“Looks great, sounds polished, lacks personality”) are very excited, reminding their countrymen that “if he lands this role it will put him in the premier bracket of hosts who command multi-million dollar salaries.”

Then again, one newspaper says Dom was actually hired to host a new American show called Star Struck– but that’s the tentative title of Simon Cowell‘s proposed Idol-spawned movie.

Band premieres in October.
