Gay British American Idol dream crushed

The latest great American Idol controversy ended with nary a whimper last night when Tom Lowe, the “Gay British” contestant who’d once belonged to a boy band that recorded for Simon Cowell’s label, was cut from without comment from the competition. The elimination was surprising, if only for his professionalism that he displayed in the audition (see it here) and the chops he demonstrated in the group singing that aired earlier this week.

Lowe’s audition and accompanying profile were not broadcast on Fox here in the States, but was used in the British broadcast of the show, which led to accusations that Cowell had “planted” Lowe in the mix. Was it to goose the British ratings? And how did he wind up singing the Anthem at Fenway? Don’t ask us. But it’s funny that the telegenic singer was gone at the first opportunity.
Lowe gained controversy with reports that the Harvard grad had competed for the “Mr. Harvard” title, “parading in bathing suits, shaking his scantily-clad behind to the tunes of Britney Spears, and performing a racy striptease,” and posed nude in a magazine as “Britain Choirboy of The Year.”

But amid the Hollywood slaughter, it’s history. On to the next Idol scandal– like how did Sundance Head get through? And why does Simon keep calling him “Jason”?

Hey, we’re still bummed that Sean Michel didn’t make the cut.

    I don’t really give a crap about Tom Lowe, but whatever. I’d think more people would be buzzed about the fact that Jenry, Ebony, and maybe Kia were nowhere to be found in the Top 40. They could have at least showed them being cut in the Hollywood round so we didn’t get our hopes up.

    As for Sundance, I really do not think he did that awful. He was shaky, sure, but he bar far the best male voice in the competition. So what do the producers do? Show Simon belittling him, have Ryan belittle him through voiceovers, and then put him through to the final 24 as the last male WITHOUT showing us his last-chance acapella performance that they showed for almost EVERY OTHER CONTESTANT ON THE SHOW. How do we know if he did great in it or not?

    Plus the last insult was right there in front of the judges, where Simon basically goes “Jason you sucked, Tommy we liked you” and then they eliminate Tommy. Are they TRYING to turn the public against Sundance? I’m sick of this crap. And I read in a spoiler forum that Tommy was eliminated for leaking information to the media, which is a big no-no. Well fine, cut him, but stop using Sundance as a controversy scapegoat!

    In addition, I think Jason is his name. In his FIRST audition, he was labeled on-screen as Jason “Sundance” Head. So I guess the Jason was added on sometime later in his life.
