‘Idol Gives Back’ kills two

American Idol

American Idol flaunted its generosity and heart on last night’s Idol Gives Back charity show by teasing viewers for two hours about “shocking” voting results, only to forego elimination altogether (two contestants will go home next week). But while Chris Richardson and LaKisha Jones were spared for another seven days, the special was notable for being the first telethon to actually kill two people during the telecast in a ploy for sympathy and donations.

The shocking deaths occurred in two separate segments featuring Idol Angels of Death Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell in Africa. The first victim was a woman in the last stages of AIDS. After Simon helped fold her into the back of a pickup truck for a ride to the hospital, Seacrest announced that she died two days later. A later segment featured a mother rushing her malaria-stricken baby to a hospital, only to have the screen go to black and Seacrest intone that the child didn’t make it.

Meanwhile, an attempt to raise the dead…
…a bizarre, grainy, soft focus segment in which Celine Dion (why the long face?) traded verses with Elvis Presley– was not as successful– or as shocking.

But hey– how’d you like Idol Gives Back? Did we miss Borat, Pink and Gwen Stefani? What the hell was Harvey Weinstein doing in the “Stayin’ Alive” segment? When did Bono turn into Ringo? And how about that Kelly Clarkson? Bigger than ever, no?

I HATE you, Tabloid Baby. You’re the sickest and lowest lifeform on this website. I, for one, thought that Idol Gives Back was a great cause and for you to mock it and claim that they “killed” two people in filming their experiences is blasphemous to say the least! Disgusting wastes of life like YOU are the ones who KILL the impoverished by spreading hate all over the world. I can only hope that karma actually exists and that YOU will someday have AIDS living in Africa taking care of 14 kids the size of your closet… Either that or that YOU may be attacked by mosquitos as you search for food out of a landfill and catch Malaria… As for the Celine Dion/Elvis thing – I personally thought it was pretty impressive for a primetime network production that was put together with a relatively low budget and short timeline. Obviously, simple joys and pleasures can’t amuse someone with as black a heart as you. And yes, I did notice there was no Borat/P!nk or Gwen Stefani, but I really didn’t need them to be honest… And your comment about Kelly Clarkson being bigger than ever? Yeah, so what? I’d like to see what YOU look like you piece of shit. If you’re a guy – you’d probably NEVER stand a chance at getting with a girl like Kelly Clarkson… You’re probably lucky your hand doesn’t run away from you, you’re probably so ugly. And if you’re a girl – you’re probably hating on her because you wish you could look HALF as good as M-Doo, let alone Kelly. Someone seriously needs to take you off of TVGasm because your lack of talent in writing and your lack of wit are getting to everyone who reads this website. MYL – Can you do SOMETHING to take this piece of crap writer off of the website before he/she/it single-handedly runs it into the ground? Thanks! :)

Yeah… I like TB posts too. They are my favorite thing here at TVgasm, and the first things I look for everyday to read. Keep up the great work TB! YOU GO!!!

I watch AI for fun and entertainment. The last 2 nights, while for worthy causes, were really kind of a bummer. Hopefully they will re-think the concept for next time.

Thanks for all of the great posts Tabloid Baby. You are my American Idol!!

    All you haters are lame!!!!!

Terri is right. Its supposed to be a fun show. If I wish to feel any human sympathy or help my fellow humans, I can go down the street and do it. You should be able to expect what a show promises you, not be subjected to a beg-a-thon.

    And Anonymous #5…GO TO HELL!!!!

why are people like terri and Ikey complaining that Idol gives back bummed them out and that AI is supposed to be fun and for entertainment, etc….UM, did you not know that this week was going to be the telethon??? Its not like they surprised us w/ it all of a sudden, its only been promoted for the last 3 months! If you only like to watch AI for entertainment than it was your choice to NOT watch this week. Tuning in this week and being upset that it was more serious and less entertainment is your own fault, you knew what you were going to watch when you put on fox. And also, that’s the problem w/ our world, NOBODY wants to be confronted w/ the reality that life sucks for the majority of people out there. You just want to live in your own little selfish bubble where you’re not invaded by the problems of others! How selfish and arrogant and heartless!

I don’t understand why the majority of TB’s supporters are “anonymous”. TB serves a purpose here. To create controversy and add revenue.

    EVS.

What Ikey probably means, is going down the street to a postbox and mailing a check to an ACTUAL CHARITY. Try giving directly to an actual relief charity, not through the non-publicly-disclosed channels of a for-profit TV show. I recommend Penn & Teller’s Bullsh*t episode about breast cancer as required viewing. In summary: “Pink ribbons on every consumer good possible” is really just another way of being able to talk about boobs in public (sex sells) without seeming sexist, and while the runs/walks/whatevers are good experiences for the participants, survivors and families, etc., more money would find its way to breast cancer research if one donated DIRECTLY, not participating in a heavily-advertised ‘event’ where most of the money goes to administrative costs. And I work in the cancer field, with many family members who are survivors — I walk the talk.
