“Idol” sends “Lost” running for cover!

Lost

ABC will be protecting Lost when it returns from its long and chancy hiatus on February 7th.

The net is giving the mysterious series a new time slot–its third– so it won’t have to compete with American Idol.

Scaredy cats! And is it a coincidence that the decision is announced days after Lost star Matthew Fox’s less-than-charismatic hosting gig on Saturday Night Live?matthew%20fox.jpgOf course it’s a coincidence!

(Although Fox’s future on Lost is a mystery. Out promoting his new movie, We Are Marshall–directed by the visionary McG– he tells The Boston Herald that they’re shooting episodes without him: “I can’t tell you why, but I have had a little reprieve from the show. I hear there’s rumors out there that I’ve been killed off the show. Which I love that.” The Marshall box office could figure in. Keep an eye out for Sutter Cane‘s Monday morning B.O. tally.)

Where were we?

Right. Lost will remain on Wednesday nights, but move up an hour later–to 10 p.m.

The move’s a no-brainer. Lost has done wonders for ABC, but the ratings took a big hit last January when it went up against Idol. And coming off the thirteen-week break, they can’t take any more chances. The new time slot will give us at Tabloid Baby the best of both worlds, and give the ABC affiliates’ late night local news shows a ratings boost, to boot.

This totally sucks! Staying up until 11pm does not agree with me showing up in time for work on Thursday morning. How could they do this to me?? And who really cares about American Idol results show. All that matters is the last minute or so.

i have no problem waiting another 60 minutes for lost on wednesday nights.
but i will take this opportunity to ratchet up my vehement hatred for american idol & the fools in this country (& abroad) who further feed the beast by tuning in.
when we look back on this time in music/television/pop culture history & see american idol pathetics like claiken and the 20-something with gray hair as the stars on the landscape, the embarrassment will be inescapable.
no wonder the rest of the world hates us.
