Trading Paula Abdul for Courtney Love? It didn’t make sense yesterday– and now folks at American Idol and the Courtney Love camp are all claiming it was just a big misunderstanding.
Yesterday he had “no comment,” but today Idol producer Nigel Lithgoe is denying he phoned Hollywood trainwreck and professional rock ‘n’ roll widow Courtney Love, and offered her a chance to sit in as a judge on the hit show– with the ultimate intention of replacing loveable wacky, spaced-out, if-not-drunk-then-drugged little sexpot Paula.
The Idol fan world and we, too, were rocked yesterday when the usually-authoritative Us Weekly website reported the news, and added word that an inside “source” stated that Lithgoe was looking to replace Paula at the judge’s table.
Now, Lithgoe tells Us (not ‘us”– Us Weekly) that Courtney was punk’d!
“I did not call Courtney Love and am afraid someone may have misrepresented me. Courtney Love is a very talented artist, but the judges for American Idol are Paula, Randy and Simon. We have no plans to add to or replace any of them.”
And now Us quotes another “source”– this one “close to Love”– saying, “It was probably a prank.”Maybe in Courtney’s case– but we at Tabloid Baby hear that Lithgoe was ready to make the move to replace Paula with someone– but that everything hit the fan and lawyers got busy when the nonsensical Love idea was floated.
Besides, look how boring last night’s Idol became after Paula didn’t show up for the second day of Birmingham auditions. “Family obligation,” our ass.
(There’s an alleged message from Courtney Love on her website, in which she ramblingly blames US for the “kerfuffle.” But hey, who gave her dead husband’s catalogue to Rock Star Supernova?)
