Idol’s McPhee is a lonely girl

American Idol

Earlier this week, Ryan Seacrest informed us on the American Idol premiere that last year’s bosomy runner-up, Katharine McPhee, had become “America’s Sweetheart.” We weren’t aware of that. But today, the busty singer shows up with a real sweetheart
–well, imaginary sweetheart– making an unlikely appearance on the latest episode of the web video serial, Lonelygirl15.

Lonelygirl, featuring a 16-year-old girl named Bree talking into the camera, hit YouTube last summer as a “real” video blog and became a worldwide hit before it was exposed as scripted fiction, starring an actress.

mcpheelonelygirl.jpgThe buxom McPhee’s management got in touch with Lonelygirl‘s creators about doing a guest spot as a way of promoting her new album.

The writers had been looking for a way to cast fans as characters and had already been devising a female character who briefly meets Bree. So they gave the attention-seeking, breasty McPhee a shot. And no, they don’t kiss or anything. The bra-busting McPhee filmed the spot last week, playing an unnamed character who meets Bree and her friends after they emerge from hiding. The episode’s called Truth or Dare.

She doesn’t sing, but– and (like her own) it’s a big but– a song from her debut album (dropping January 30) will be featured as background music.

The vuluptuous McPhee did not get paid for her role. But the Lonelygirl site features a link to her MySpace publicity page, and once again, for this full-figured Idol fave, the exposure is already paying off.

The series can be seen on YouTube and Revver and on the Lonelygirl15 site.

Do you have to constantly refer to her as “buxom”, “voluptuous”, and “bra-busting”? You couldn’t mention her at all without putting a derogatory adjective in front of her name. I’m glad she’s not a size 0 like most other people in Hollywood. She’s shaped like normal people, and she gives young girls a realistic portrait of what women should look like. Personally, I think she’s freakin’ hot. So get over it.

I agree with you nmk01. And her non-trashiness is refreshing aswell. she reminds me alittle of claire danes looks wise, someone else who actually has a female figure.

You sexist comments are sickening. Katharine is beautiful inside and out! I’d be happy to look half as good as her.

When did those words become derogatory?

They may not be derogatory exactly, but they are definitely demeaning. Most women want to be referred to by something other than their bra size.

Right, sorry. When I said “most women” I was referring to women with some self respect and who aren’t camera whores. Just because McPhee likes to whore herself out doesn’t mean women can’t be offended by her and the nicknames bestowed (unfairly or not) upon her.

Why am I the first to comment on how horrendous her acting was?

    Seriously, TB, you suck!

I think I speak for most of us on here that I usually skip right over anything with your name attached to it. But four times on the main page you made a reference to Katharine’s breasts and another two more after the jump with another two thrown in on her figure.

    Just GO AWAY, please.

Everyone needs to chill out, don’t read the posts if you don’t like them. Being malicious makes you look like an idiot.

No, tikilights, these are different types of comments than usual. Usually the comments are stuff like “You suck!” or “This is so stupid!” and for those, I totally agree with you – if you don’t like TB’s articles, don’t read them. However, this time I agree with the others. Whether or not McPhee did use her assets to her advantage, the constant comments about her breast size were unnecessary, annoying and yes, sexist. I am quite well endowed myself, and I really do NOT appreciate the leers and lewd remarks that I get on a daily basis – I do not want to read more like it on my favorite website. I would rather be known for my personality or for my brain than to be referred to as voluptuous and ogled constantly.

Personally TB, I like your work. Other people may call it stupid, but I think it’s funny. However, this time it was just disgusting. Please never make comments like these again.

There have been remarks like these ever since the beginning of this website. Particularly in the recaps: Laguna Beach, RW/RR Challeneg, etc. Why everyone is making a big fuss about it now, I don’t understand.

Well I’ve never read those recaps. I stick to Desperate Housewives and TB’s stuff mostly.
