Who needs TiVo? The next season of American Idol will be available anytime, anywhere you have Internet access. Idol owner Fremantle Media will stream the full episodes online at AmericanIdol.com, the day after they air. But they’re not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. It’s all part of a plan to take over the world. And make even more money.

You see, with these streaming episodes… …you’ll have to sit through more commercials.

As if 137 marketers in two years–and two and a half billion dollars in franchising deals isn’t enough, Fremantle is cramming more advertisers into the Idol webcasts. McDonalds and Mastercard have already signed on. (Also done deals or in the works, according to Advertising Age, are Idol chocolate bars, ice cream, Monopoly games, a theme-park attraction and a Sims-style virtual Idol world ).

The bad auditions begin in a “2-day, 4-hour season premiere” next Tuesday and Wednesday, January 16 and 17, starting at 8 pm. See audition sneak preview videos here.

Don’t all networks that stream TV have commericals? The ones I watch all do (Vh1, MTV, ABC).

Its nice because the commericals are usually reduced by A LOT. Is AI not reducing theirs as well?
