2006 MTV Europe Awards, MTV2, 11/2/06

We knew some good would come out of watching the 2006 MTV Europe Awards. On last night’s telecast, Kanye West lost out for Best Video to European duo Justice and Simian (oh sorry, did I spoil that for you? I know you were dying to learn the outcome). Anyway, no one puts Baby in the corner, and the same goes for Kanye, who angrily walked out on stage and ranted on about why he should have won this ever so prestigious award. For more information on the awards, click here, but to see the actual incident, click above. Beware: there’s some not very work-safe use of the n-word.

I really haven’t like this guy since his bitch fit after losing at the grammy awards to this country singer. He paid a million for this video, so what. What a loser, he needs to get over himself.

I’m 97% sure that this was staged.

seems like it, why would kanye have a mic that was turned on? Wouldn’t the producers turn all mic’s off except the person accepting…. Anyway yea, kanye is an arrogant douche bag but i still like his music

    Rappers like Kanye are fungible.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that soon one will come along who’s actually likeable (a stretch, but it can happen) and he’ll be out on his ass.

Ugh, I am so over this guy. The narcissism is out of control. The part that always gets me the most is his outlandish claims. I remember for the Grammy Awards when he was up for album of the year that he said he had the best album, but that he hadn’t heard Paul McCartney’s album which was also nominated. Same thing happens here. “Nothing against you, I haven’t seen your video…” Uhhhh….THEN HOW THE FUCK DO YOU KNOW YOURS IS BETTER, ASSHOLE?!?!

Really makes me want to throw out my College Dropout CD’s…

Ugh, he’s so whiny and ridiculous. Like Greg said, how can he judge that his video is better if he’s never even seen the winners’ video?? And he emphasizes the cost and the stunts and Pam Anderson as the reason why the video is so great. There’s a joke in here somewhere – Quick – someone say something about the video THEY would make with a million dollars, some canyons, and Pam Anderson!

PS I hope he was drunk, for his publicist’s sake.

I’m sure it was his publicist who told him to do it. We’re talking about it aren’t we? A publicists wet dream.

    Pinky-
I know publicity is publicity, good, bad or otherwise, but this seems to be different. I have yet to see one response to this situation which hasn’t been some variation of “OMG THAT GUY IS SUCH A JERK FACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!111!!!111!!!!ONE!!!!” (myself included).

This does not make me want to tune in to the Grammys to “see what he’ll say next,” or pick up the latest issue of Vanity Fair with an interview with Kanye. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth and really I think has turned me off to the guy once and for all.

    I know I’m one in 6 billion, but still…

Although, for what it’s worth, I hadn’t seen the Justice vs. Simian video either, so I went onto YouTube to watch it. And it was kind of a mindfuck.

Although if the list of top videos from the past year was these two, “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley, “Stupid Girls” by Pink, and “A Million Ways” by OK Go (AKA “Not The One With The Treadmills In It”)… then I suppose we should be laughing that Kanye cares so much.

    1.) Kanye get over yourself
2.) I’ve never seen or heard of the video that won, but I actually thought the video for “Stupid Girls” was actually pretty good.

I never heard of this “singer” before his little stunt on TV during the Hurrican Katrina telethon. Fuck you, Kayne West!
