   I hope he loses just so we can hear Chris Rocks Promised outrage. THank you Chris for deciding for the rest of us who deserves the Oscar the most. The man who seems to go out of his way to make shit movies.

   Between this and his Ray Charles voice at the Golden Globes, I’m growing ever more wary that Jamie Foxx might just be a gussied up Wayne Brady.

   I know Jamie Foxx is the front runner for the Oscars but I will have to go with Ed and say I also hope he loses. Eric Morlon Bishop (I checked and that’s his birth name) stared in one decent movie and now everybody thinks he should get the Oscar because of it. You never saw Leonardo Dicaprio or Johnny Depp star in ‘Booty Call’ because they were too busy making good films. I really hope he loses just because you know he thinks he is going to win. And something funny that I noticed is that Jamie, Leo and Johnny all play real life people in their nominated movies. J.M. Barrie and Howard Hughes just aren’t getting the attention they deserve. All anybody ever talks about is Ray Charles.

   And if Jamie does win, (which I really hope doesn’t happen) how much do you all want to bet that a close up will be shown of every black person in the audience? That is what they did at the Golden Globes and I found it very unnecessary. I also think Usher shouldn’t ware sunglasses indoors because it makes him look stupid.

   We got some playa haters around here.

   Yeah the movie as a movie doesn’t deserve an oscar, yeah foxx should stop wearing the sunglasses, but you can’t say that in that film he wasn’t dead on as ray. which was harder to do than hughes and barrie because 1) fewer people have seen film footage of those two to compare the performances to 2) playing someone with a disability without looking fake is hard.

   but yeah, jamie does need to take the sunglasses off.

   Maybe I’m wrong but am I feeling some racial tension in the room? Get over it. The reason why Jaime Foxx had to do Booty Call was because it’s a lot harder for black actors to get films like “Titanic”, etc. Give the guy a chance. What if Jim Carrey was up for an Oscar. Would you be saying the same thing. Are we forgetting that they both came from “In Living Color”.

   And Leo did “Critters 3″ AND “The Quick and the Dead”.

   Every actor has something on their resume they wish wasn’t there.

   Jamie Fox nailed the part. Kudos to him. Now he needs to get over it.

    And Lisa, you know I just hate the close ups of all the white people when Tom Hanks wins the Oscar. Darn, a couple of black faces are on TV for 30 seconds and white folks get antsy. What’s with that? Usher should chuck the glasses though. Now that’s a brother I’m just tired of seeing. He is everywhere, with no talent except dancing. Shuffle along Usher.

    the jamie foxx parade is getting pretty annoying, all the more so because it coincides with the requisite year of abject ass-kissing from celebs in the media whenever a ‘national treasure’ passes on to the great gig in the sky.

    But Danielle has a point. It’s pretty tough for brothers to get lead roles in oscar-worthy films unless Denzel and the Fresh Prince can’t squeeze them into their schedules, and Halle Barry had to take it doggy-style from Billy Bob Thornton for a sister to win an Oscar.

    I’m as sick as anyone of the excessive Ray Charles nostalgia, but I just saw ‘Collateral’ over the weekend, and Jamie Foxx’s performance in that movie is pretty phenomenal. His Oscar campaign for ‘Ray’ has gotten out of hand, but the guy can act.

Foxx got it for the film he is currently shooting: “Jarhead.” It is based on former Marine Anthony Swofford’s best-selling 2003 book about his pre-Desert Storm experiences in Saudi Arabia and about his experiences fighting in Kuwait. Word on the street is that it will be one of the major movies up for Oscar consideration next year. Directed by Sam Mendes (“American Beauty”), with a screenplay by William Broyles, Jr. (“China Beach” and “Castaway”), it stars Foxx (as Sgt. Siek), Chris Cooper, Jake Gyllenhall (as Swofford), Lucas Black (the kid from “Slingblade”), Dennis Haysbert (“24″), and Sam Rockwell (“Charlie’s Angels”).

    Gosh darnit, I forgot to mention that Don Cheadle plays a real life person (Paul Rusesabagina) in HOTEL RWANDA and I don’t have a problem with him winning because he isn’t all over my TV like Mr. Foxx. If Jamie was such a serious actor then he wouldn’t have that stupid tattoo on the back of his head.

    When Tom Hanks wins awards they show close ups of his family and co-stars. When Jamie won the Golden Globe they cut to Usher at least twice and I don’t see a correlation to Usher and RAY. He wasn’t in the movie and he isn’t even an actor. What was he doing at the Golden Globes? Come to think of it, when Jamie won the Golden Globe it seems like every black person was standing up and cheering loudly. They were just making a big scene which isn’t what normally happens when Tom Hanks wins awards.

    I don’t like Jim Carrey. He isn’t funny. He is just mean. I have some examples of why I don’t like him but I won’t waste your time with that now.

    I don’t know why I even get so involved with these award shows. The winner is always the sentimental favorite. If Clint Eastwood was on his deathbed then he would be the front runner.

    Oh, Lisa. You just don’t like any alumni from “In Living Color”. Let’s be real now. Again, I agree with you about Usher being EVERYWHERE he’s not supposed to be like the Golden Globes. And the reason the producers focus their cameras on his smug face is simply because he IS EVERYWHERE and they think he’s just great.

    About the Oscars and Ray Char…oops Jamie Fox. In all actuality Lisa, it’s 60 seconds of unrelated black folks mugs on tv (some of whom may be standing and clapping among all the sitting white folks) in the span of a three hour show. So just chill girlfriend. Of course all of this is speculative. Jamie might not win. In which case you will have a great night!

    Yes the tatoo is a fake, its a for a role. No his real name is not Jamie Foxx (many famous actors do not use their real names- a. b/c of marketability and b. there are rules in the unions that you cannot have the same name as someone else. So if you name is Tom Smith or some shitand there is already a tom smith you have to change it.)

    Lisa- ever occur to you that maybe black people are happy to see a black actor be hailed for something other than a bad cop or a naked single mother? No- Ray is not the best movie, and yes Jamie foxx is basking in the Ray stuff a lot- but fuck it why shouldn’t he? We are long due and you need to stop hatin.

    p.s. titanic and booty call were both horrible movies. Titanic just had more money behind it and a celine dion song.

    Annoying is as annoying does…

    After awhile ANYTHING crammed down your throat for several weeks straight is going to start causing some gagging.

    When someone repeatedly acts like a character they’ve played in a MOVIE while they’re NOT ON THE SET (i.e., at awards shows, at dinner, during EVERY INTERVIEW, etc.) — one might begin to question the wisdom of elevating such a person/character to such esteemed heights as “Oscar winner” and possibly consider sending them to the “Who-the-fuck-cares” bin of the Internet.

    Which is what is happening right this very second viz Mr.Ray Foxx. I am very, very, very tired of him/them/it and I am hitting the mental “snooze” button till all this is over.

    Anyone else that feels the need to add possible “PC” or “ANTI-PC” sentiments or motives to his winning or not winning and the attention being paid to all this is perfectly free to do so. There are certainly reasons to be supicious on both sides.

    I have a lot of pet peeves so almost anything he does could make me dislike him but I will give the examples I was referring to. Before Christmas be was on the Today Show promoting ‘Lemony Snicket’s’ and outside on the plaza they were having this gift collection thing for the needy so every day a celebrity would nicely go aroung and collect gifts that people brought, but oh, not Jim. He was trying to be funny so instead of just letting people put toys they brought in the big red santa bag, he went around and was taking stuff out of people’s hands such as cameras & phones and he took hats off of peoples heads and put that stuff in the bag. Katie Couric was sitting inside on that damn sofa laughing but I didn’t find it funny at all. I just thought it was really rude. There was this pretty girl on the plaza too that he actually tried to put in the bag and by “put in the bag” I mean shove her head into the bag. You could tell she didn’t enjoy that at all but Katie sure did. You would probably have to see the clip for yourself to understand my point of view.

    I know that a lot of actors change their names but the thing about Jamie is that he chose the name “Jamie Foxx”. My sister and I were talking about him one time and she said he spelt Fox with 2 x’s. I didn’t believe her and then we looked on the internet and sure enough he does. I then thought that it wasn’t his falut his name had a stupid spelling and then she told me it wasn’t his real name. After the realization that he actually wanted his last name to be “Foxx” made me laugh. He could have chose a different name similar to his real name or just left his real name but he didn’t. You don’t have to change your real if you are an actor. If it was mandatory then Lenny Williams would be the star of ‘The Aviator’ instead of Leonardo DiCaprio.

Ironically – so does Katie Couric – perky little poodle of a woman who you just know was the annoying girl who sat in the front row at school raising her hand every time the teacher asked a question, always with the right answer, always making you want to smack her.

    Its actually a really funny story behind Jamie Foxx. He started off in standup (open mic night), but saw that mostly women were getting picked. So he chose a sexually ambigueous name (Jamie Foxx) to gain a better chance at getting chosen from the talent pool. After he performed under that alias of course he had to keep it. Anyway, the point is he was using it for stand-up which normally doesn’t call for ‘serious proper spelling’ of surnames.

    I guess you’d have to have humor to understand that.

    I hope he wins because he deserves it, he worked hard, embodied the character and delivered a hell of a performance.

    Why is it if you do finally achieve a certain level of stardom and enjoy it a bit, people think you are egotistic. I guess he should’ve stayed in that bad movie box he was in.

    The man has worked, whether or not if you agree with the type of work he’s done, nonetheless he has worked and achieved a dream of his…….what have you done? Why hate…….damn!!

    wow! Okay, so I just happened to stumble to this site while going to get a pic of Jaime accepting his NEW award. And I am shocked at what I have read thus far.

    Lisa: You need to think about what you say a little longer before you write it. We are talking about an Oscar award! White people get those EVERY year! This is the 77th Oscar Award Show and there are ONLY 7 or 8 Black people in the WORLD who has ever gotten one. OFCOURSE THERE IS A NEED FOR CELEBRATION. YOU ARE WITNESSING HISTORY BEING MADE!!!!!!! And Ofcourse they are going to show other black people in the audience and their reactions because WE are happy for OUR race as a whole. This is not a selfish moment. It’s an EVOLUTION taking place right in your face.

    By the way there are only 8 black actors to ever win…and now there are 10. So yes, I will celebrate and embrace History for it is being made.

    I know it’s hard to admitt a wrong…but lets just admitt that in our past black people where not treated fairly…so what whites have yearly and daily…they take for granted….We don’t have that…but we are FINALLY being recongized for our gift of acting…..so we celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hell, if the roles were reversed…YOU would too!

    Most of you must be either teenagers or early twenties who are on here hating, because you don’t know your history. If you did, you would know why this IS such a big deal. I mean Halle has to play a skank, just to get an Oscar. Denzel, with ALL the good movies he’s done, get’s an Oscar for playing a corrupt cop in what turned out to be an average film. That award was simply a token for overlooking all his other stellar performances. Anyway, it’s typical of white folks to down play black achievement, despite the fact that they have had white privalege for soooo many years. I mean come on, how many new white actors have we seen in the last 10 years compared to black actors. We can name the black leading men and ladies easily, but not the white ones, there are far tooo many. Talent has nothing to do with it, just racism. So I say hats off to Mr. Jaime Foxx for an incredible role. Those of you who are hating will continue to see African American’s respond with pride when our accomplishments are recognized, because we know we are good, we are just tired of getting dissed. If you all really want something to complain about, complain about the fact that most African Americans who have the talent, desire, and passion for the industry will never get in whether it be in front of the camera or behind. So, we celebrate every victory, every step of the way, because we know we have a long way to go. Now hate on that!

    Wow. When reading some of these crazy comments the quotation “walk in my shoes comes to mind”. Black actors and actresses typically even today are only cast in certain roles. Regardless of talent there are high budget movies debuting every weekend where according to the masses, the lead performers HAVE to be caucasion. Could Denzel or Jamie have ever had a chance to be Forrest Gump? How about the lead in Titanic? Halle Berry or Angela Bassett have a shot at the same type of roles as Hillary Swank or Kate Winslet? It is wonderful that Foxx had an opportunity to showcase his skills in a biopic, because other opportunities might be few and far between in spite of his ability. The same with Don Cheadle. One of the worst injustices in Oscar history happened when The Color Purple was ignored by voters, but we know it was an awesome movie. However, people like Speilberg are rare who can do a movie that does not necessarily reflect their lives, be diverse and do it well. Just like we need African American owners in the board rooms of sports organizations, we need African Americans to articulate the stories that people with similar backgrounds can identify with. Some might be bad…Pootie Tang, Booty Call and others were not Oscar moments. But they keep food on the table for performers not given the same opportunties for higher profile/more lucrative roles. There is not a lack of talent in the African American community. We can entertain as well as anyone else in all facets of the acting world. The problem is that we are not given a fair opportunity, so when there are victories, we will celebrate as if we just heard Joe Louis knock out an adversary on the radio. And if you don’t like it, too bad. Just get used to it, there are more where Foxx came from.

    I don’t care what people say. Johnny Depp should’ve walked away with the oscar that night, but if the producers felt that they had to do something nice for the black people because of black history month, then I would rather have seen Don walk away with the oscar because Don is a much better, serious actor than Jamie. At least Johnny and Don have been in the business a lot longer than Jamie has… Johnny was robbed.

Let him shine like the true entertainer that he is. He is one of the few black people that should have been recognized a long time ago.
