Big Brother is going balls-out in its return this summer– literally– as CBS simultaneously launches an almost-uncensored spin-off series on cable.
Big Brother: After Dark will feature a live, unedited feed from the “Big Brother” house, three three hours a night (midnight til 3 am ET/PT) on ShoToo, Showtime’s widely available companion net.
With so many cameras in the house capturing multiple storylines, an online producer will decide which camera views audiences will see. But producers are making it clear that profanity and nudity will be allowed (and, we’re sure, encouraged)– though they say the feed will be interrupted if anyone says something slanderous– or, get ready for this:violates music copyrights.
There’s one catch, of course: Because Big Brother originates from L.A., the feed viewers see will feature activity taking place between 9 pm and midnight. So they’d better get busy early to make it worth subscribing to Showtime.
(European versions of Brother have been a whole lot sexier, explicit and more controversial than the Chenbot show we’ve got. Our pals at Anorak have been all over the latest British Brother, which has continued not only the sexual escapades but the racial controversy of last season.)
The new season begins July 5th. CBS will once again run Big Brother three nights a week: Thursdays and Sundays at 8 p.m. and Tuesdays at 9. That means the low-rated and sucky Pirate Master will move to Tuesdays at 10 (starting July 10th, after receiving a special one-night airing after the Big Brother premiere). Here on the Internet, live house feeds will still be available for $14.99 per month, and the Big Brother talk show, House Calls will be back for a fourth season, and users wil be able to post selected clips to blogs.
CBS is also offering offer mobile-phone packages packed with Brother content, like breaking news from inside the house.
