Mom Shannon says that Brooke is going to have to use her brain to get through the tryouts. (Something that has, thus far, been foreign to TLC and all reality TV.) Shannon says that Brooke needs to TELL the judges what she can do. Brooke seems so-so with the suggestion… like she does about everything else. Not a lot of passion, but smart enough to not say no to her mother.
Alisha arrives at the gym and asks Cassidee if she can tumble one handed. Cassidee says that she can but that she still wants to go home. Instead of what we’re used to hearing, Coach simply asks if she wants to go home (yes) and if she wants to be carried out (yes). Many points to Coach Mom.
The doctor meets with Shannon, Bill and Brooke and says that Brooke has, at some point suffered from a stress fracture in her spine. Oddly, he does say that she can tumble, but just to watch how she feels. However, he does go on to suggest that Brooke needs to shed some pounds. Mom Shannon seems a bit surprised (really?) and asks “5-15? 20?” and the doctor wisely responds he’s not going to put a limit on it. I bet Bill is hoping that maybe Mom Shannon will decide to diet with her daughter and shed some of her own weight.
Shannon interviews that the doctor wasn’t saying that he wants Brooke to lose weight, but more that he wants her stomach muscles stronger and to get some of the fat off. Yeah, um, Shannon… that’s what losing weight is… and it is what he wants… overweight people tend to have back problems. My non- licensed opinion is that it has something to do with the back supporting all the fat.
But true to fashion, Mom Shannon heard that Brooke could tumble, so off they went to gym (my vote says they may have made a ‘run for the border’ and sucked down a Chalupa first). Brooke starts working on her back handsprings and is pretty good. Shannon stands to the side alternately asking/demanding,
“Did it hurt? No? Do it again. Did it hurt? No? Again. No? Again”. Well, as least she’s not being pushy and “studies show” that the best way to mend a broken back is to immediately throw the patient into high impact tumbling. But who cares, Mom Shannon is smiling and Brooke, well, she’s standing.
The moms, including Coach, decide to get together for drinks and dish. And by dish, I mean gossip. Ann orders a Dirty Shanchez Martini. Coach wants a Red Bull and vodka, and I don’t know what Bonnie or Shannon orders (but for Shannon, I’m going to vote it’s a White Russian with whipped cream and a side of bacon, and for Bonnie, I’m guessing it’s a couple of shots with a shot chaser). Mandy arrives a little late, but she isn’t drinking which is completely foreign to the other ladies (myself included). Ann comments to the table that she doesn’t know if they’re going to let Bonnie in their circle yet. Mind you, Bonnie is sitting across the table from her, so while this episode has been tame (read, boring) I think I can see some potential for drama.
