The Today Show, 5/31/06, NBC

What better way to bid Katie Couric adieu from The Today Show than with an atonal tune sung by scratchy Broadway sensation Harvey Fierstein? He just wants to sing. Is that so wrong??

I was watching the big Katie send off this morning and this was definitely NOT one of the highlights. But I gotta wonder if NBC didn’t miss the boat–maybe they should have hired Harvey instead of Meredith to sit on the couch with Matt!

Thank god he let us know that there was a key change there. Otherwise, when I’m singing at home along with it, I wouldn’t know what key my back-up frog should get into.

Yikes! Definitely a frog voice! The lyrics were cute but he better keep his day job.

Is he seriously on Broadway? I just can’t imagine paying that much money, only to have the show ruined by THAT VOICE! I too watched the farewell crap this morning, and honestly, I am thrilled she is gone! I have never liked Katie Couric, but the Today Show content is always more interesting than GMA. I think we need to have a competitiion on who has had the highest amount of bad hairstyles throughout the last 15 years, because she is definitely a top contender!

Um…what does it say about me that I really liked it?

I also love how like 40 seconds into it, the girl behind Katie seems to suddenly realize she’s on camera and run off!

I’ve seen him in Hairspray and Fiddler on the Roof (playing Tevye), and yeah he sounds like a frog but trust me but he is an amazing performer onstage. He’s gotta be the oddest “singer” out there today, but somehow he makes it work. He is definitely NOT to everyone’s taste though.

One definitely needs to know him to get it and like him enough to stand it.

m_ruv, does he actually sing or is it all monotone, aka his Today Show appearance?

He definitely always sounds like a frog. But he usually sounds much more like a frog singing in tune—it’s hard to explain. He has a lot of stage presence and charisma with the audience, but it doesn’t come across in this clip.

I don’t give a rat’s ass about Katie and I could live happily ever after never seeing her perky face again. Good riddance.
    But the singing was funny!

Wonder if CBS will put on a “Welcome Katie” show with Andy Rooney singing a medley…

    that was horrible!

did anyone else think it was funny how mariah carey kept congratulating katie on her “emancipation” from nbc when she was on the today show on tuesday.

like, have a little tact about it (oops-my bad-she doesn’t have any).
