Bud Light Super Bowl ad was a slap in the face

Commercials

Once was a time you could look forward to watching the Super Bowl just for the commercials. This year, the advertising Schmedricks were a little less inspired– even handing over precious airtime to ideas sent in by amateurs (tell those guys in the Chevy car wash commercial to put their shirts on).

One of the bright spots in the rough-and-tumble collection was a Bud Light ad in which the which face-slapping replaces the fist bump as a greeting. So original was the concept that the ad ends with an old ad man congratulating the new kid for “saving the account.”

Not so fast. A comedy troupe claims the idea was stolen from a bit on their website!

See the original after the jump…

The group, The Whitest Kids U’Know of New York City, has already got a lawyer. And now that you mention it, Bud Light’s Rock Paper Scissors ad looked a little familiar, as well…

vaguely similar, but the bud light ad was at least somewhat amusing. this comedy troupe sketch is terrible. i revoke their right to refer to themselves as a “comedy” troupe any longer.

I can’t imagine that anyone would watch that sketch and think it was so funny they’d have to steal something from it. So, I’m going to side with Bud Light on this one…
