Shayne has no idea how to lean on Nik for comfort, so instead she gets defensive and ends up pushing him away even though she doesn’t want to do that. Nik is so very direct with her, and says he’s lonely in this marriage and what’s the point of being married if you’re lonely?
He walks away and Velma basically has to tell Shayne directly that she needs to go see what he needs and be with him right now because he is so upset. Shayne is so very very clueless and it’s hard to watch. Because she loves him but she has NO IDEA how to care for him emotionally. She probably has never had a real emotional connection to anyone and always thought that “sex = love.”
Ugh, Shayne interviews that she realizes he’s reaching out and she’s pushing him away. She finds him in his room and then crawls ontop of him to cuddle him and he says, “Don’t hurt me.” This happens in my home, too – although I usually just fart on my husband. Lucky guy, right?
Morning Group. Topic: Power Struggles in a Relationship.
First couple in the spotlight: Friends with Benefits and Too Stupid.
Class, who do you think has the power in this relationship? FWB is oblivious to how she’s given all the power to Too Annoying to dictate this relationship. She starts a whole song and dance about how she loses herself in her career to keep herself safe from being vulnerable, blah blah blah which is all an excuse for how Too Obnoxious has been keeping her on the hook for all these years. The good Doc basically tells her as much, saying that HE has all the power in the relationship:
And now we’re getting into our favorite ridiculous portion of the show. You guys, this shit has to be peformance art because there is no other explanation for it. Although, let me sidebar for a bit here. When I was in high school, right around this girl’s age – there was a girl in my class who was delusional. She used to tell us that her parents owned an island in Hawaii, that there was a college named after her family there, all these crazy stories that were obviously not true even before you could Snopes.com things – her stories never added up. Turns out this poor kid was basically neglected by her parents, her brother was an addict – in short her very sad, lonely and emotionally empty home life caused her to overcompensate by creating this fantasy world. I think this may be what we’re seeing here, an adolescent fantasy world. In short, Courtney speaks out loud all the stupid shit she should just be writing in her Lisa Frank unicorn diary. Sadly, though, she’s given a platform for her not yet fully formed mind to start unloading all this drivel. It’s sad and simultaneously hilarious. Shall I go on?
