   Oh. My. God. This is so exciting… Degrassi is, for those of you who may not know, the best show ever. Are they going to start it from the beginning? So people can understand how substantial the backstories are? I hope so… wow. It’s pretty much amazing.

   Is there any interest in having someone recap the new season (starting in January)? Because I would totally love to do it.

   *SQUEALS*

   This is GREAT news! Degrassi is great. My favorite episodes are when Emma got gonorrhea, when Marco came out to his dad, and when Jimmy got shot and put in a wheelchair. Or maybe the episodes where when Ellie becomes a cutter becuase her mom is an alcoholic and her dad is off fighting in the Canadian Peace Corps (!), JT gets Liberty pregnant, and Mannie’s dad calls her a slut and kicks her out of the house.

   God, I love this show!

   When I was in high school (all girl) in Canada we had to take a sex-ed class. Rather than hear Mrs. Winslow talk about ‘our friend’ we used to scream for her to bring in episodes of DeGrassi Talks, a TV special they developed where the Degrassi actors went around Canada asking teenagers about REAL ISSUES. We memorized the theme song and would sing it until Mrs. Winslow sighed and went to get the VCR cart- head hanging.

   “Degrassi talks. Degrassi Listens… we hear real stories from real people… Degrassi TALKS! da da da dunnn!”

   I’m 37 years old, WAY too old to watch this show, but I have watched it (in secret) ever since stumbling across a marathon of episodes by accident on “The N” late one night. The show is well written, the characters for the most part act like real people, and while they are good looking they are not so attactive to be unbelieveable, and they appear to be at least close to high school age. I think this show could be a huge hit in the U.S. with wider exposure.

   MalloryS, I agree with you. If they are smart they will air the series in sequence starting with season one because these characters really do have a lot of history and backstory.

    i stumbled upon the season 1 marathon by accident too and i haven’t stopped watching since…i felt way too old to be watching it for awhile until i showed an episode to my 30 year old brother who’s now just as addicted as i am…come on what other show talks about bjs and gonnorhea!

    Oh Degrassi. I used to watch reruns of Degrassi Jr. High and Degrassi High, but have become a little too old for The Next Generation. Still, they are now airing episodes at 12 noon on weekdays (in Vancouver), so whenever I get the chance, I like to watch it. It definitely is a guilty pleasure.

    I don’t watch Degrassi, but as all (English)Canadians, I’m proud of our little show.

    Just to correct you Tabloid Baby, I think Kevin Smith appeared as himself on the show. On the show he was at the school filming a movie or a show that featured Jay and Silent Bob.

    *hangs head* I just finished Season 4 through Netflix and now am making my way through seasons 2-4. I am wondering though if and when the show moves to syndication, if they will air the “controversial” episodes that The N initally refused to air.

    Kevin Smith appeared as himself in 3 of the episodes. He also played his Silent Bob character as he he was making a movie at Degrassi called (IIRC), “Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh?” Alanis Morissette also appeared on the show.

    I was a huge fan of the original Degrassi show and so I get a kick out of seeing Snake and Joey and Caitlin and Emma’s mom on the show. Occasionally there have been guest appearances by former cast members of the original shows.

    I’m now 30 but I still watch Degrassi: The Next Generation because the show is so real to what teens really do go through and they don’t gloss it over and have everything nicely tied up by the end of each episode.

    Just adding my 2cents, I also caught the marathon, while babysitting my niece, and at first I was shocked by the content, especially since my first episode was when Paige got raped by the footballer. I am definately not in highschool but still make it a point to catch the show fridays on the N, I just hate, how they break the season into little pieces. I wonder if the FCC, will allow them to show the controversial episodes, the school shooting, STD scare, teen pregnancy, especially since the show doesn’t necessarily preach against those actions, and the actors are not 30 yr olds, but actual young people?

    i am in h.s. (a senior) and i LOVE this show. I do find it a little odd though that the guy i find most attractive is marco’s boyfriend. this is def. a great show for teens to watch because it deals with actual issues in our life, unlike say my other fav show, Laguna.
