Funny & Balanced? Fox News takes on The Daily Show

There are those who’d argue that the Fox News Channel is already in the comically fake news business– we can’t keep a straight face watching that loofah-fantasizing sex harasser Bill O’Reilly call for yet another boycott– but now the fair-and-balanced news network will try a real fake news comedy show– to correct the unfair balance in the world created by the liberal Daily Show.

The network is planning to air two episodes of a right-wing comedy news show on Saturday nights in late January, with the possibility of a regular weekly spot. Possibly to help viewers identify the show as entertainment and not another biased Fox News show, it will be taped before a studio audience in Los Angeles, with two “anchors”: actors Kurt Long (Cuts, Games Across America) and Susan Yeagley (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Reno 911!). Except for the politics and two hosts, the show should look pretty familiar, with street interviews and correspondent reports. The conservative comedy news show is executive produced by Joel Surnow and Manny Coto of Fox’s 24. Surnow promised it will take aim at “the sacred cows of the left.

“It’s a satirical news format that would play more to the Fox News audience than the Michael Moore channel,” he said. “It would tip more right as ‘The Daily Show’ tips left.”

The show was originally pitched as This Just In to Fox’s late-night division, but Fox honcho Roger Ailes, who runs both the Fox News Channel and Fox TV stations, made use of his conflict-of-interest and plucked the show for his conservative news side.

Now here’s how you can help: The title This Just In was scrapped because it’s being used by an HBO-AOL production. Roger Ailes and Fox news doesn’t have a name for its new show.

Any suggestions?

How about calling it: ‘The No Spin Zone’.
    -or-
‘Fair and Balanced, (for the right)’ show.

BTW: I thought that ‘The Colbert Report’ was the right leaning version of the daily show? I guess they don’t find the humor in that show (which is hilarious!!).
If they really don’t think that its funny, well I can’t wait to see what their idea of humor is….zzzzzz…

Right on! I can’t stand it when the likes of Juan Williams, Eleanor Clit, and Alan Colmes start force-feeding Hayek to me. And what about that crazed right-wing extremist that Rupert Murdoch endorsed for senate in NY? Too damned conservative for me…I’m going to trotsky over to CNN for my news!
