Girls Recap: Another Man’s Trash

Is it weird that I only showered once in a three day period? These clothes smell like sex sweat

Later, Hannah showers in Joshua’s massively oversized shower and plays with all of his shower controls. She gets enough steam going that she passes out and has to be rescued by her suitor. He brings her back to his bed, dresses her in a robe and strokes her hair, asking if she feels better. Hannah, maybe still foggy from all the steam (she works around steam at the coffee house all the time, no?) decides to take the conversation in a more serious direction. She is lonely, and she is afraid to admit that she just wants to be happy.

All of this confession, while good for the soul, will be even better when Hannah needs $200 and decides to share her 3 day sex fest with the world wide web.

Hannah confesses that when she was 3 she told her mom that the babysitter touched her vagina in the bathtub, but she may have been lying about that. Her mother didn’t believe her anyway. She also once told a guy to punch her in the chest and then come on that spot. This is what comes from growing up in an age of readily accessible pornography, when the abnormal seems normal and broadband internet is available in every McDonald’s.

Joshua confesses that he once received a hand job from another boy when he was 9, but Hannah doesn’t really care. In her defense, its barely a story, though. After all the confessing, its clear that this 3 day escape from reality has run it’s course and Hannah notices that Joshua has suddenly become less enthusiastic about her being there. When she wakes up the next morning, she gets the newspaper from the stoop and reads it on the patio while eating toast and jelly. Then she makes the bed, empties the trash, and leaves the brownstone.

There’s no good way to pack for an unexpected 3 day sex romp/ping pong tournament

Did you have a funny feeling in your stomach after watching this episode? Or during this episode? I did and I’m not sure if its because I’ve been in a very similar situation in my life, and this whole episode was just too real. Relationships of this magnitude are hot for about 3 days. Maybe one or both of you calls in sick, you fuck, you share feelings, you get sick of the other person. Everyone is just trying to fill a void.

About

I learned I was different in the third grade.  They would bring in our parents as tutors to help with difficult subjects like math, which is a testament to just how underfunded the California school system has always been.  Michael Weber's mother was tutoring me and one of my classmates in multiplication.  I did not care for the speed at which the lesson was progressing.

I threw out a line from the most classic of movies, 'Back to the Future', when I simply stated "Let's see if these bastards can do 90!"  Michael Weber's mom was not impressed.

Its sad when the peak of your comedic career comes in the third grade, but I've never let that hinder me.  I still plug away at my boring day job while I dream of a day that I can tell the Michael Weber's moms of the world to suck it for not appreciating my sense of humor.

I enjoyed the episode and it’s obvious conclusion but I’m really getting tired of seeing Lena naked ALL THE TIME!

…. I’m surprised she had clothes on at the Grammy Awards.

chooch, I feel the same way, but this is HBO, where women are contractually obligated to show their boobs so I guess I’d rather see Lena’s than the implanted soft porn extras they usually use.

I thought this was a beautiful episode. So much emotion, at this point I don’t really know where Hannah ends, and Lena begins. I read other blogs and reviews of this show, and there are alot of people who truly despise \Girls\ and find it disgusting. I just don’t get it?!

Then there’s Lena’s body. I think she is beautiful…..I see myself in her, actually. I’ve got that same tummy, big butt and thighs. I don’t get it….all I ever hear is \real women have curves, all you ever see on TV are fake plastic models, what about what a real woman looks like?\. BAM here you go, she’s about as real as you can get…..and yet I hear so much negativity regarding her body it makes me sad.
@chooch, my comment is not aimed towards your comment :) I’m talking about what I read on other sites other than ‘Gasm

Also, I have been in a similar situation….while visiting a friend out of state, I had an unexpected (secret) fling with one of her friends the four days I was there. FUN!

Thought the episode was meh….. And Lena definitely needs to keep her clothes on a little bit more. I’m all for it when it’s part of the story, but now I get the vibe that she does it b/c people have made such a big deal about her doing it in the first place….kind of like adding the black republican character.

Real women do have curves, but extra weight around the midsection is also a high risk factor for heart disease and heart attack. Acceptance of increased heart disease risk shouldn’t be promoted as normal and natural(same is true of anorexia & skinny b*tches who refuse to eat carbs!).

I cannot put my finger on why, but I found this episode to be utterly compelling. So simple and yet so good. And I thought Lena/Hannah looked quite pretty throughout the episode. She had a relaxed look – like she finally let herself exhale for a minute or two.

I think Hannah has so much fun and is cared for in the exact way she has always wanted a man to care for her that she truly becomes lonely realizing this is only a short term fun thing and it is going to end and she might never get that \happy\ again. This was a dream situation..the guy was hot, sweet, wealthy and supposedly great in bed since she hung around for days…some people are always waiting for something to ruin things that are perfect and I get that vibe from Hannah…lots of people are like her…afraid to be too happy because something always happens and it ends.

The episode made me fee bad for her and kinda sad…I prefer the funnier episodes with her crazy friends but I can understand Dunham showing us the reality of a 24yr old like Hannah without the laughs.

I didn’t get it. I like the funny ones.

I also think Lena needs to be naked less. I mean naked ping pong?? But I will say I think her figure is beautiful. I don’t think her soft belly (normal for many) indicates she is at high risk for heart disease. Those facts have more to do with visceral abdominal fat (inside and around the organs) and a more pear shape with higher waist to hip ratio is indicative of that. The more you know…As a side note, overall weight is ONE risk factor for various health related issues. All the research is actually correlational research, not causative. You cannot judge a person’s health by their weight alone. Period. So when people advise strangers to lose weight \for their health\ it irks me. Chris Christie anyone?

I’d like to “weigh” in here. I’m overweight, much more than all of you, to the “morbidly obese” state. There, I’ve said it. I’m old and I quit smoking 7 years ago and I gained 150 pounds. I’ve lost 70 of it. Yah for me! That’s not the point, I don’t need any kudos. The point IS… I had a heart catherization a few months ago because I’d been feeling fatigued. I’m here to tell you that they found no blockages, no heart disease of any kind, that my heart is fine. My cardiologist said I’m not at any risk of having a heart attack and doesn’t want to see me again for another year. I just need to keep losing the “smoking” weight. My lungs are shot from cigarettes! So I suggest you all quit smoking instead of worrying about your weight.

I’m not trying to fat shame her but being overweight is never healthy. Regardless of what lies one wants to tell themselves in order to feel better! They say something like 67% of Americans are overweight. Just because most people are overweight(therefore it appears to be the standard) doesn’t make it healthy or right.

Lena Dunham looks NORMAL to me, not overweight. A little belly and round thighs does not an overweight person make.

On a shallow and aesthetic level, I wish they’d put her in better, more flattering clothing on this show. My friend had the idea that they put her in poorly-fititng clothing to drive home the idea that she is a “girl” who does not yet know how to live life properly. Ever see Miss Dunham in interviews? She looks lovely.

The nudity on the show is a very divisive issue, it seems. Some people appreicate it (on the radio this a.m. they were talking about how comfortable she seems to be in her skin, and how there should be more girls of normal weight on TV), other people don’t like it. I don’t like seeing her naked so much because it seems over-the-top and gratuitous at times. Sex, sure, showers, obviously. Topless ping pong? Heh? But then, it’s not my show.

I don’t care about seeing her naked when it serves a purpose. But this ep was boring as hell to me and felt like an excuse for Lena to just live out a fantasy. There are a dozen other ways Hannah could have come to her self realization instead of sex with a stranger and topless ping pong. The Doctor was completely uninteresting which made it even worse. There was really no reason for me to care at all about him or her in this ep.

And lets get this clear. She is overweight. Even if she looks normal its still overweight. This isn’t a slight on her. I’m overweight but I’m not going to be in denial about it either. She knows she is overweight. The fact that she is is the whole purpose of her taking her clothes off every ep. Shes making a statement because she isn’t thin. She also puts hannah in hideous clothes on purpose to make her look more dowdy. Frankly Hannah isnt supposed to be attractive. Thats why her clothes never fit her properly, her hair is always a mess and she never wears makeup.

the fact that no one cracked up at her response to him correcting her about his name kills my soul. “You don’t like being called Josh? It’s like one of my favorite high school jock names like Trent or Riley…” why has no one acknowledged that genius?!
