What’s he doing? If you said bringing on the jam, you would be half right.

This week’s episode of Glee made me seriously question Figgins as principal. How can he hire a Spanish teacher who does not speak a lick of Spanish? I know they live in Ohio where Spanish speakers don’t really exist but still. This is why education is going down the shitter in America.

Luckily they bring in someone who can speak Spanish, Ricky Martin, to make Shu realize how bad he is at Spanish speaking and teaching.

The assignment for the week is singing Spanish songs, because that is the best way to learn Spanish according to Professador Martin. Yet, almost nobody sings a fully Spanish song. I think the most we got up to was 10 Spanish words in a single song.

Mercedes and Sam are finding it harder and harder to stay away from each other and who can blame them? Where else are they going to find a partner with matching lip sizes? Do you know how hard it is to find a fish-lipped mate these days?

Sue reveals she wants a baby and will conceive it in the most organic way possible, in a Petri dish. I can’t wait until they work pregnancy jokes into the story line, AGAIN.

To find out the deets on the episode, stay tuned for the full recap. But for now, here’s what you missed last time on Glee.

“King of the Hill” did it. Peggy Hill was a substitute spanish teacher who didn’t speak Spanish. They made a lot of jokes about it over the show run.

So is Ricky Martin going to be a regular character now?

@April, LOL, I thought of Peggy Hill too.

@hot cawfee I didn’t have a problem understanding Nene, but that might be because I’m Southern too.

I really wish they would move Sam/Mercedes storyline forward already.

Community did it, too. Senor Chang was downgraded to first student and then security guard b/c it turns out he’d been teaching Spanish for years w/o speaking a word of it. Sigh…I miss Community.

Wait..I thought Senor Chang spoke Spanish? I thought he was downgraded because he lacked teaching credentials. Although, truth be told, the writers just needed a way to keep Chang in the storyline and they knew they couldn’t keep the group in Spanish 101/102 forever.

Can’t wait till Community comes back, either Jessi! In the meantime, is Nene coming back to Glee?

If I recall correctly, he only spoke a few words of Spanish, so he took the whole semester (or year) to teach them Chapter 1 in their book. He was never asked to demonstrate that he spoke Spanish, b/c the dean thought it would be racist to ask. I love that show so much!

Oh, Glee, once again we ignore continuity for sake of plot. Wasn’t Schue the one who pushed for West Side Story which is all about the mesh of Latin and American cultures?

And how the hell can Santana claim La Isla Bonita, a pop song by an Italian-American with a few token Spanish words more “authentic” than Schue singing a half-Spanish version of an Elvis song? I think Santana is confusing “authentic” with “entertaining.”

Also, why was Santana dressed as a Dominatrix Toddler for that song?

I HATED this episode! It has been mentioned over and over how great a teacher Shu is…yet in this episode, we learn he speaks no Spanish, and his students hate him?? What??

Also…tenure at a high school?? Also, people who are not teachers are eligible for this tenure?? Including a coach and the guidance counselor?? Also, now Shu is just going to go teach social studies, despite, again, lacking any credentials towards that??

    AND the songs were stupid!

    I miss last week… :(

Bioscotto: You would be surprised I guess by how much that type of stuff actually does happen in schools. Or at least in crappy school systems. They had teachers teaching subjects that they did not go to school for. We had the French teacher suddenly start teaching us English and she was terrible at it. Then we had tenure high school teachers that were crazy but they could not kick them out due to tenure. So yeah… for once the Glee writers were kinda right on that one. Coaches usually teach one or two classes they are also unqualified for like Biology or Health so they can get tenure too.
